Laura Dern would be a great choice for Coppola.

Saoirse Ronan so she can do a bunch of those shots of her where she looks like a painting. Sofia Coppola always seems to have those in her movies with her actresses.

old thread, but how bout Florence Pugh? I think she'd fit in beautifully with Coppola's aesthetic.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Ranevskaya in Coppola’s adaptation of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard? Mattsby Viced pacinoyes - What do we think? Definitely should work together, and that'd be a great part for Pfeiffer. Her recent stuff French Exit, Where Is Kyra, Wizard of Lies, Mother - she's delivering/daring but they are either weak-scripted movies or parts that are just not that big. Now is the right time for great established material, to really let 'er rip.

Tbh I have no clue why The Cherry Orchard hasn't been done more as a film (Rampling/Bates film was one) .......people get excited about plays like Ma Rainey and The Father and I am too but both look stagy from the trailers (Ma Rainey especially) and have problems on the page as plays before they even got to film (Ma Rainey is a good play but less of one than Fences even ....... and The Father is maybe greatish but very niche and a dour night at the theater at least). For Pfeiffer it would be a great late career role for Coppola it has a built in visual palette to explore......

I think Anya Taylor-Joy would make for an intriguing Undine Spragg in Coppola's adaptation of 'The Custom of the Country'! Her unique beauty would certainly lend itself to the Gilded Age and to Coppola's general aesthetic. LaraQ
