For people that claim to hate the liberal elites, they sure do get their panties in a twist whenever a celebrity states a political opinion.

She's worked really hard to be one of the few 100% apolitical stars today and her fanbase seems pretty evenly split between both sides of America's currently massive cultural divide. I'm not a fan of her music, but credit where credit is due, I don't think we've seen a pop star be this culturally transcendent in America since Michael Jackson. If there's a big backlash to this it could have the opposite of the intended effect and make her much more politically outspoken. If she figures her more conservative fans are turning on her she may try to satiate her more pop oriented liberal fans by getting "woke" and try to win over some of the people who think she's too safe and boring. She got some blowback for not commenting on the 2016 election. Which is what I meant before, she's probably the only America at her level of fame to not publicly announce a preference between Trump and Clinton. For people that claim to hate the liberal elites, they sure do get their panties in a twist whenever a celebrity states a political opinion. A lot of conservatives are obsessed with celebrities political opinions due to their deference to any kind of authority. It's why they get so mad if some actor or musician says they're voting for a Democrat, but then hold up Eastwood/Mel Gibson and all those country singers as folk heroes just for supporting a Republican they like while being famous. Even when I aligned more with Republicans I didn't get this at all, I don't give a shit whether a famous person supports the same candidate as me.

Look what they made her do etc. etc.
The reactions so far have been exactly as one would expect them to be, but it's such a balanced, level-headed statement. It's the farthest thing from a hysterical "fuck Trump" tirade. Swift explained in rational, specific detail why she's against Blackburn's policies, and even then, instead of ordering her fans to follow suit, she concluded by stressing the importance of participating in the democratic process and actually showing up to vote for the causes one believes in. Not only is she clearly not full-on endorsing the Democrats top to bottom, she went as far as to call out ultra-partisanship by highlighting that it's unrealistic and unproductive to expect the agenda of any one candidate or party to match with one's interests 100% of the time.
Hats off to her for putting out a decent statement even if means risking a considerable portion of her fanbase.

It would be news if Merc began backing political candidates.

Unfortunately I'm not that optimistic. Several Stars were lobbied 4 a political statement, because if they don't, just they don't work anymore. Specially music artist. Taylor Swift could be apolitical because she sold 10 million copies from every album she made in the past. Unfortunately, and not 4 her fan base (technology), she doesn't sell any more.
in the recent past, that happened with Shakira, who was against farc treatmente peace, but at the least seccond she was convinced with a short alla Taylor Swift declaration.
This year with several argentine and irish stars in favour of the free choice, and most recently singer sensation Anitta against Brasilian candidate Bolsonaro.
Or Swift made a declaration in favor of George Soros LGTB lobby people, or she will suffer the Garth Brooks ostrascism.- Even Shania Twain last April, had to regret her Trump supporter comments, in order to present shows in US. Because the theatre owners are most Democrats.-

Not surprised. There’s just as many ‘snowflakes’ (hate using that term) on the right as there is on the left.

Also: Only 25%? I guess 1989 is just too good to give up.

Could this be the beginning of a Susan Sarandon-ish new spin on Swift's career? That'd be too good to be true.

Trump is a bully plain and simple. If you don't agree with him then you are wrong.

The comments section... from a channel called "American Patriot" I'm surprised the comments aren't a lot nastier tbh.

Who knew the whole Kanye West/Taylor Swift feud will reignite again from a political platform this time? The funny thing about this is that, say, five years ago, if someone had told you that they would be having a political feud I would have assumed it would have been Kanye on the liberal side and her on the conservative one.

Who knew the whole Kanye West/Taylor Swift feud will reignite again from a political platform this time? Are we convinced this is anything other than a massive joke at Trump’s expense? This is Kanye West we’re talking about, the one person more narcissistic than Trump, the man who called Bush out as hating black people on live television. If this doesn’t turn out to be some elaborate ruse and stunt, like most of the “WTF” things he does, I’d be shocked.
