Good they are casting Broadway people. I still don't understand this remake.

I dunno. After watching Billionaire Boys Club, I can't get excited for anyone who was involved in that trash.

The picture looks good, I like Ansel as an actor (less so as a singer) and hope Spielberg can knock this one out of the park.
The original movie is such a classic and I just saw the stage version at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and it moved me to tears, ugh.

New Photos from EW and Vanity FairI have to say other than Rita Moreno's new character, I'm reminded of the original too much, so I'm not really that excited. I mean I'll still see it because I do really like the story and music, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low since this version doesn't look like it's going to be better than the original for me.

Looks like a shoe-in for a number of technical nods, and I'll more then likely enjoy it. I'll admit though that Kamiski's drenched in blue cinematography doesn't really fit with the big musical vibe Spielberg's clearly going for. A number of the stills make the dancing look more lifeless, maybe it'll look better in the film proper.

I'm extremely unenthusiastic about this.

Good to see you're open to the notion that dancing will probably look livelier in motion rather than in a still photograph!

Elgort recast imminent?

I don't think it's feasible. They'd have to reshoot like half the movie, and knowing Spielberg, there probably are some highly intricate dancing/visual sequences that would be impossible to rejigger with CGI and maintain the quality of the filmmaking. Provided it all checks out, they just have to release a statement like "We condemn this behavior, and will be donating to ________; while we understand the anger and frustration resulting from these revelations, hundreds of artists worked hard on this film, and to honor their work, we will be releasing the movie."

Nah...they are more likely to pay fixers to make these allegations against Elgort go away or do enough to discredit the accuser (unless more come out the woodwork, and are credible, in which case Elgort and the movie are fucked). Look at Ezra Miller...the guy was literally caught on camera asssulting and choke slamming a girl, and there were no immediate recriminations. No statement from Warner Brothers saying he's no longer the Flash and fired from Fantastic Beasts. Warners seems to be banking on the whole thing blowing over..

Yeah, that's probably all they can do. Wonder if studios may press in the future for some kind of clause in cast and crew contracts saying that if they are credibly accused of serious allegations that they may forfeit any non-upfront proceeds (residuals, points on the movie) they would normally be entitled to on a project. Not sure if they could get that leverage over the unions, but it seems like that'd be the best way for the studio to try to save face when the financial viability of their project is threatened by stuff like this.

I guess it will depend on if more accusations arise. At a certain point he may become too toxic for them to move forward an it would be more viable to spend the millions to reshoot with a substantial delay (assuming hey don’t want to just shelve it).

Why don't they just recast the part with Christopher Plummer and some CGI?!

There’s already been at least two more and I guarantee you even more are coming. The movie is fucked and his career is over. Plain and simple.

There’s already been at least two more and I guarantee you even more are coming. The movie is fucked and his career is over. Plain and simple. We'll see. I think like three accusers came out against Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl) with rape allegations during the height of the #MeToo movement. People figured he was done for. The cases got referred to prosecutors in LA. After about a year, they found there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him and he's basically been able to resume his career. He lost gigs and was suspended from projects while the investigation was ongoing, but as soon as the prosecution was dropped, he was welcomed back to the industry with open arms. In the short term, West Side Story may be screwed. Your leading man can't have something like this hanging over his head (though Covid-19 may be a blessing in disguise. They have a good excuse to delay release even up to a year in hope that Elgort clears his name). But if this were to play out like the Westwick situation, I wouldn't declare Elgort's career over just yet.
