Thoughts?
I thought the film boasts some really interesting ideas, and gives a few little twists here in there in the zombie genre, but the second half just falls kinda flat and it loses it's momentum, which sucks because it started out really strong. The characters are pretty stale and uninteresting, and when they started dying I just didn't feel anything. The performances themselves were fine, though. Close was MVP like always. The first 30 minutes or so were phenomenal (there's a scene that could go down as one of the best action scenes of the year, for people who count this as 2017), but I don't know, it just loses steam after a while. Again, it holds some really interesting ideas but it just didn't emotionally pull me in enough to really care that much.
Tech-wise it's good, and the performances were fine, so I'd give it like a 6.5 or something. I can see this being one of the "underrated gems of the year" that people will talk about come December.

I saw it, and absolutely loved it. It has a fresh unique take on zombies, has a stellar cast, and the action scene you speak of is pretty great. I didn't think it lost its momentum in the second half, I saw it as the film shifting to focus more on the relationship between Melanie and Miss Justineau. Glenn Close was pretty damn great, but Sennia Nanua as Melanie was the MVP for me - followed by Close.

Not sure everything in there quite adds up in the end, but I thought for the most part it is written so well (particularly in the early stages where it sets everything up, and doesn't go heavy on exposition) and the performances (Nanua in particular. She's amazing) so good, and it all produced so clinically, that the whole thing just worked so well for me. Riveting and entertaining stuff.

Great disappointment. Had read the book prior to watching the movie and it didnt have any of the suspense of the book. I was also not the biggest fan of the casting (in the book Melanie is described as a pale, elf-like girl and Ms. Justineau is described as a black woman in her 40s who has a motherly side). I liked the dynamic between the two of them in the book. This frail little girl looking for a mother figure. In the movie Melanie was too tough too quick and Ms. Justineau was too much of a babe. I liked the performances, but the movie itself left me very disappointed.
For those who havent seen it yet: Read the book instead!
