Moving straight ahead into albums we're kicking things off with the 1960s. Drop acid not bombs, yo. Ok enough of that, let's move on from the lame intro and into the important stuff.
Voting rules:
• Send me a list by PM, not in the thread. • It should contain your Top 25 albums of the 60s, numbered from 1 – 25. If your lists are not numbered, I will count them as 1 – 25 in the order sent. • Your #1 will earn 25, #2 earns 24....and #25 will earn 1 point. You all know the drill. • Once you've voted, you can of course edit your vote by re-sending your ballot to me by PM. • This isn't specific to one genre, it spans all music. So you could have an Aretha Franklin album on your ballot followed by Led Zeppelin. This will probably lead to a large number of albums getting mentioned but I'm sure things will be fine, especially considering this is limited to just one decade. However no composers, sorry.
Voting officially closes 3 weeks from now, Saturday October 20, at midnight. So technically voting officially closes Sunday October 21 but you get the point.
Please use this thread for FYCs and discussions/arguments.

Damn, we're doing this fast. I'll do FYC's and mini reviews/sample tracks for non obvious stuff I put on my ballot.

No compilations I assume - no Hot Rocks etc?
Live albums ok?
FYC -
Jeff Beck Group - Truth - basically the blueprint for what Zep swiped but you can like them a lot without even without liking Zep too. Better guitarist and singer too - discuss amongst yourselves!
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks - a one of a kind record. Monumental.
If live albums count :
Jerry Lew Lewis - Live At The Star Club, Hamburg - Seriously, if this isn't on your list you might be way too mellow pal. As Punk Rock as any record I own .......it's practically demonic

Are soundtracks eligible? I'm gonna have to say no on this one and just stick with studio and live albums.

Another FYC, which I think is better than the album it's always compared with, Sgt. Pepper.

Album polls are so much more appealing to me than the artist poll was, so I'll definitely be participating. Haven't listened to much from this decade though so I may not vote this time around if I can't catch up on enough stuff in time. Will certainly submit something for '70s and onwards. Anyway, my main FYC for this decade...

Any chance we can limit it to like 1 or 2 an artist so it doesn't turn into 3 artists populating the entire list?

I myself am thinking about putting 3 Pink Floyd albums on my ballot. And it’s gonna be a Top 50 so there’s lots of room for non Beatles and Rolling Stones albums.

A lot of people will FYC for experimental pop, psychedelia, proto-punk but don't forget the blues - I may not include all of these but all are on the possible long list for sure:
Muddy Waters - At Newport 1960 Howlin' Wolf - Howlin Wolf Junior Wells - Hoodoo Man Blues Paul Butterfield Blues Band - East/West and their debut arguably too
Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton Magic Sam - West Side Soul and the followup Black Magic Etta James - At Last

Well, I said earlier I would do mini-reviews/clips for non-conventional things I am considering, but it turns out most of what I am considering is non-conventional or things I would not expect to make the list, so I'll list them and sort by genre.
Jazz-
Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, and A Love Supreme by John Coltrane Free Jazz by Ornette Coleman
Baroque/psych pop-
Days of Future Passed by The Moody Blues Song Cycle by Van Dyke Parks Odyssey and Oracle by The Zombies Between the Buttons by The Rolling Stones (It seems weird to FYC the Stones, but it's not nearly as popular as their others of the era)
Rock- Something Else, Village Green Preservation Society, and Arthur by The Kinks The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat by The Velvet Underground (I wouldn't normally feel the need to FYC these, but the Velvets were just 40 something on the artists list) Freak Out! by Frank Zappa From Elvis in Memphis by Elvis Presley (Elvis did okay on the artists list, but I have a feeling this won't make this one even though it's probably his best album, so I thought I'd give it a shout out)
Pop- A Christmas Gift to You From Phil Spector by Phil Spector (would be so cool if this made it)

An interesting thing to note:
During the best artists poll when we had this many ballots in and counted there were 2 tied at 25 points thanks to a #1 placement (the other ballot was only a Top 5 so...) and nothing was over 25 points.
3 ballots in and counted here, we got 11 already over 25 points with two at 25 points but both of those are from multiple ballots rather than from being a #1 placement.

That's really surprising. I would have thought the votes would be a lot more spread out for albums.
