Both a victim of and a victor through her incredible beauty... Her signature roles ( The Barefoot Contessa, The Killers, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman) really showcase the fact that the studios didn't really know what to do with her other than highlight her beauty. But I think there was real talent there that deserved to be encouraged.

A Best Actress nomination for Mogambo (best of the nominees) and a win in the same category for The Night of the Iguana.

Maybe two nods for Mogambo and Night of the Iguana.
I have to see more of her work, though.

Update: I finally watched The Snows of Kilimanjaro this week - Ava is just so heart-rending and wonderful in it - definitely nomination worthy.
