I'm never quick to judgment on these kinds of allegations, but all I'll say right now is I don't see a significant reason to distrust Christine Blasey Ford pending a thorough investigation. I hope this doesn't turn into another Anita Hill moment, but it feels like that's probably how it'll go.

I agree with this, but with that said, there's a hell of a lot that should outright disqualify Kavanaugh from consideration even aside from the sexual assault allegations. For what it's worth, I do believe Ford.

One sad fact of life, right up there with your bus always coming just when you light a cigarette/crack a beer is that Presidents always get their way with who they want........well not always of course but pretty much always with a majority on his side. Popular POTUS or not.
Either way it's going to be ugly.......

Well if she's not willing to testify the whole thing's going to be moot and Kavanaugh's going to be confirmed. The FBI/DOJ don't really investigate stuff like this and I doubt Congress is going to start one.
All it takes is one Republican defection to torpedo the whole thing (McCain's replacement is abstaining), so if her testimony goes well/Kavanaugh's doesn't, and there's evidence backing it (a classmate of she and Kavanaugh has been quoted as saying the incident was widely talked about at the time) it could happen. I could see someone like Susan Collins or Jeff Flake believing the allegations and voting against him. Especially Flake since he's retiring.
Another situation that I could see is McConnell wanting to delay the vote till' after the midterms, if he thinks the public backlash of them confirming him will be so bad that it will result in the Dems taking the Senate (at the moment they're favored to take back the House, not the Senate). Then they'll confirm him after the elections if they retain the Senate. Of course the risk there is that the Dems could over perform slightly and take back the Senate, in which case he'd get Borked.

I think he's going to be confirmed but you know there's something off about him... I don't know what it is but when I look at his face, he seems dishonest. That type of look does not belong on court that comes with a lifetime appointment.

A woman who might be completely for abortion and a Senator like Feinstein could lie to save it. Not that I know for sure but don't pretend that there aren't factors in play.

I don't have to provide "brilliant " analysis like you do on so many occasions. Cause you know, I'm not on the committee. Anyway, Like I said, he looks dishonest and that's my gut feeling.

The voting here appears to have shifted with the second allegation and rumors of a third (there were rumors of the second before it came out as well). We used to have three undecided votes and just one guilty vote. I myself just switched from undecided to guilty.

I myself just switched from undecided to guilty. here's the thing, at least IMHO, he should have told the truth: I was young, got wasted and was probably irresponsible. People would have still said something but now he just looks like a liar. His latest: I was a virgin. Ummm, hello, she said attempted rape. Nobody is trying to deal with an appointed liar for 35 plus years.

At least this gives the red state Democrats, Collins, and Murkowski an easy out.
Next appointee please, Drumpf. If you really cared about unifying the country, you'd make it Merrick Garland.

Seems clear that he's guilty, but, since he's the only judge to say Trump can't be charged with anything, he'll join the Supreme Court anyway.

Okay, look. First off, screw the other accusers; the gang rape accusation is especially.... Nevermind if the man is even guilty of this. I don't know, and I have no opinion. All I have to say is this: What the hell is a man that is this damn belligerent towards his questioners doing as a nominee to the Supreme Court? Good heavens. The man is attacking anyone on the left that asks a question.

Even if the accusations were false, all Kavanaugh did today was look like the aggressive, entitled asshole the accusations have painted him as. All that foaming at the mouth and we're supposed to believe he'd be a calm and fair member of the most important judicial court in America? Fuck that.

After that hearing, I believe it now more than ever. It’s still not gonna change anything. If one thing is clear, it’s that none of those people wanting to get him confirmed were ever gonna change their minds. They heard Ford’s testimonies, but that doesn’t mean they had to *listen* to any of it. They got uncomfortable for a few minutes, they entertained what they assumed were the misguided fantasies of a young girl, all other credibility be damned (and there was no reason to think she was lying), and now they get what they want right afterwards, because fear of losing support or their jobs will keep those swing votes in check, and none of them would dare make a sacrifice worth a damn.
And funny that Lindsay Graham so often goes after the snowflake Democratic resistance, yet today proved more delicate and fragile than those he criticizes.
What Zeb said is right. What’s indefensibly and knowingly wrong can just be brushed off as opinion at this point, and what should be considered basic human decency (ie. actually LAUNCHING an investigation and taking claims seriously) keeps getting turned into “left v right” politics. And the people supporting him won’t care. It happens everyday with Lord Tangerine Coatrack. I still say any one of his many, many, many blunders should have been considered a step too far, and yet those people - who he lied to, and made promises he couldn’t keep, and continues to undermine at every conceivable step - just keep dunking their heads in the sand, as if plugging their ears and shouting “Lalalalala” is enough to make those problems go away.
So I choose to remain cynical. He’ll get the votes, he’ll get appointed, and he’ll get to help in setting decades old progress back. I’m open to being surprised, but let’s face it; what fucking room is there for surprise anymore?
