Reading these reactions is really sad. I had such high hopes for this. It had Shane Black for crying out loud. But after seeing the trailer I can't say it surprises me. So that's 3 sequels and two studio produced fan fiction movies and not a single success among them. It really shouldn't be that hard. I know! They should have just bought my idea and been done with it. But you know how Hollywood is... bet if my last name was Dunham, they'd buy it.

Yeah, not gonna lie -- while watching it, I was thinking, "Man, our movie would've been so much more dope."

Yeah, not gonna lie -- while watching it, I was thinking, "Man, our movie would've been so much more dope." What I don't get is why they keep gunning for friendly predators? Makes no sense. I can buy the begrudging respect bestowed on Glover at the end of 2... I can buy the predator helping out the girl in AVP (as stupid as the movie was... but at least that's like John Wick when compared to Requiem)... but it's a villain. Keep it a villain. No one wants to see The Joker fight alongside Batman because it would make no fucking sense (probably not the best comparison because comic book characters are about as consistent as... well, they aren't consistent). I haven't seen the new one yet, but our idea of having the roles flipped where the hunter is now being hunted and vice versa (but still sorta the same) would have been cooler than what seems to have transpired.

You're right. It's kinda why I hate the Alien vs. Predator franchise, because it argues that Predator by definition has to be "the hero" and also reduces the Alien/Xenomorph to being either a swarm of oversized cannon-fodder bugs (see my Aliens complaint) or the merciless killing machine that the humans and Predator have to team up to fight. Fuck that noise.

Umm, so I guess I'll be the first to admit that outside of a slapped-together third act that is nigh unwatchable I actually had a hell of a lot of fun (at least during the first hour). I honestly thought it was hilarious. Every cast member was charismatic (including Munn who I usually loathe) and the dialogue was really, really funny. Every few minutes there was a gag that totally landed for me. Sterling K. Brown and Trevante Rhodes were legitimately fantastic, and I really dug the chemistry of the band of loonies. I thought the tone was deliriously wacky, which was a breath of fresh air compared to the hopelessly dull Predators. Yeah, the final half hour is an unmitigated disaster but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much Shane Black's voice shone through in the first two acts. Maybe my expectations were so low that it colored my reaction. But even with the horrendous ending I still think it's by far the most enjoyable and interesting Predator sequel. That's obviously not saying much, but I'm kind of sad it's being completely written off as garbage when there's still a lot of fun stuff in there. I'd call it an enjoyable mess.

As someone who was pretty hyped for this film as a fan of Shane Black’s work and not only a huge fan of the original Predator, but even someone who kinda liked both Predator 2 and Predators, this was terrible. They actually made a recurring joke of a character having a curse-only version of Tourette’s syndrome. And don’t even get me started on the stupid autistic superpower bullshit. I probably would’ve found the humor hilarious when I was in 13 but I cringed during almost every comedic scene and since the film is basically a comedy, that’s most of the movie. Obviously I don’t need the film to be a Zack Snyder-esque super serious experience, but it would’ve been nice if the characters seemed a bit more afraid. Also, I’m glad that I watched it at home because Sterling K. brown’s death happened so fast that I literally rewinded it to confirm it actually happened. Probably the worst editing I’ve seen in a major studio film since Suicide Squad. Trevante Rhodes deserves better than this.

IMO its hands down the worst film of 2018 . Shane Black should be ashamed of himself here . So glad I didn't waste money seeing this shit in theaters (ended up just renting it for free at my local public library last week so no loss really other than time) 3/10
