It sucks to talk about one's country in a bad light but i had to bring this topic to you guys. Recently a murder happened 100 miles from where i live.
The story goes like this: A boy and girl fell in love at an young age but their parents weren't supportive (as does most Indian parents).. The girls's parents house arrested her and she lost some of her education but the couple fought this all the way to their 20s and got married by breaking up with their parents. The boys parents came to their senses and accepted them but the girls' parents especially the father who belonged to an upper caste (yes there is caste discrimination in India) and is fucking rich couldn't digest this. He thought his prestige would get damaged and decided to do a ghastly thing.
He arranged a deal with a professional killer to murder his daughter's husband. Recently the girl became pregnant and the couple went to doctor for a checkup but they didn't know what would happen in the next few minutes. A person followed them from behind like a ghost with a machete and hacked the guy to death right in front of the pregnant girl. The girl ran into the hospital to find some help but fell unconscious while the guy died minutes later. After she only realized that her husband was dead after she became conscious. Police saw the CCTV footage and the media got hold of it and showed it to the viewers. It was disturbing. Finally the culprits were caught but the father still supported his sick belief and that he only did it because his daughter married a lower caste guy. This thing became a sensation and the guy's fellow caste members actively condemned the act but there weren't a single person who condemned this from the father's caste.
It's sickening that two people can't happily love each other and get married in my country. But not everyone does honor killings in the name of caste. There are some cases where inter caste marriages happen and the couple lives a happy married life but in most of those cases the couple are educated and earning a lot of money and both the parties are rich. Things go south if that isn't the case.
What do you guys have to say about this?
