I think Molly Shannon was the only person in the world more excited than I was to see Molly Shannon win. Finally some recognition for one of the best performances of the decade. I haven't seen Hell or High Water, but it's cool to see Foster win something too.

At least here Natalie should've won But big yes to Molly and Ben <3 Says a lot when she can't even win with her film being nominated and Huppert's controversial eligibility. Natalie and her film were a critics thing only. Took me a long time to accept this, but it is what it is.

Was everyone from Hell or High Water campaigned in Supporting? Because Foster has even less business being in that category than Bridges.
With that said, HELL YES FOSTER & HUPPERT.

Manchester not even being able to win Screenplay there sort of weakens its chances even more.

I was so happy to see Neve Campbell at these awards! Possibly the most underutilised Hollywood actresses

I don't usually give much thought to category placements because I don't do personal lineups, but Foster seemed like a pretty comfortable lead to me, even if he does have less screentime than Pine. What's your reasoning for a supporting placement?

What's your reasoning for a supporting placement? For me, Foster exists in a purely supportive capacity to Pine’s character. We never really get into Tanner’s head, and except for three brief instances (the solo bank robbery, the gas-station confrontation, and his final scene), he’s usually seen through Toby’s POV. Tanner is too much of a cipher for me to consider him a leading role. But more to the point, I feel the film has two distinct and parallel stories: that of the heist and that of the investigation. Bridges’s Marcus Hamilton is a counterpoint to Pine’s Toby, while Birmingham’s Alberto is the counterpoint to Foster’s Tanner. Alberto and Tanner serve the same basic capacity against their co-stars. Bridges is distinctly lead to me: he drives his own storyline, most of the film’s key moments are from his perspective, and even at the end when he and Pine face off at last, it’s seen from Marcus’s perspective.

All fair points, none of which I'd considered before. I'd originally pegged all three as leads, but you make a good case about Toby/Tanner being parallels to Marcus/Alberto.

Fantastic winners all around! All those awards for Moonlight! I would be very pleased if the Academy decides to go the same route. Moonlight needs to be a Best Picture winner.
