Which one do you prefer ?
In my opinion , Jay-z has better meaning in music, lyricism, and doesn't seem to be that much of a dick off the mic like Kanye is. I seriously never understood the big fuss about Kanye .

Easily Kanye for me. Virtually flawless discography, production is top-notch, and there's a level of introspection and raw honesty from Kanye I can always expect while Jay for the better part of the past decade (aside from 4:44, a welcome return to form) has done little more than flaunt his wealth and status, the kind of hip-hop hedonism that was pretty standard throughout much of the 2000s and frankly I think Kanye does better at depicting at this point as displayed on Watch the Throne.

Probaby Jay for me personally - I came to it first and he makes sense as a GOAT pick but honestly in the long run it might be Kanye because a lot of Jay's 90s stuff hasn't stood the test of time imo, it just hasn't. I don't really think Jay's best work is much better than Nas' best records and Nas can't really make records - he's a great lyricist but not in crafting records (Illmatic and a few others excepted).
I guess Reasonable Doubt, The Takeover and The Black Album are his legacy and they're great but why the others last is because they sold - and he put himself in an impossible spot - he sold a lot of gangster BS records, when he wasn't, then started rapping about his wife and baby like a wack job and people only care because of who he was not because of those records themselves. I like 4:44 but that was the first in a long time I could even stand.
Say what you want about Kanye, and he'll never have Jay's credibility but he's got at least as many great records as Jay, they are likely to hold up longer and just 3 months ago he put on a towering display of creativity/lunacy/ambition. Jay hasn't had that many good ideas for production or records making in 10+ years.

Jay-Z easily. I get the feeling Kanye is considered better. Not that Jay Z is considered bad but he doesn't get singled out as the Radiohead of the 2010s or anything.
But id take J anyday. Its not just about the music but the showmanship. Kanye seems like a Trump in that hes a jokester that doesn't seem to take things seriously. His easygoing personality aside, J has been around longer and his run in the early 00s makes him dominant in the more superior time period. Take off some points for his crazy wife though.

Kanye wins this handily. I think he's one of the most interesting hip-hop artists currently working. Even his weaker albums have something cool going on in them.
I find most of Jay-Z's output pretty boring. I like maybe 3-4 of his songs, otherwise it's a whole lot of meh.
