BEST PICTURE
La La Land. It won the Producer's Guild, Director's Guild, and scored Oscar nods for director, screenplay, and editing.
BEST DIRECTOR
Damien Chazelle. He won the Director's Guild and attached to my pick for Best Picture.
BEST ACTOR
Viggo Mortensen and Andrew Garfield won the Satellite. Ryan Gosling won the Globe. Washington won the SAG. Affleck won the Critics Choice, Globe, and BAFTA. I am going with Affleck. He was nominated for both the SAG and BAFTA (unlike Washington), and won the majority of big awards this season.
BEST ACTRESS
Emma Stone. She won the Globe, SAG, and BAFTA, and the only nominee attached to a Best Picture nominee.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jeff Bridges won the Satellite. Dev Patel won the BAFTA. Mahershala Ali won the Critics Choice and SAG. I say Ali. Not only did he win the most big awards this season, but he's attached to the Adapted Screenplay winner. However, Patel comes in a close 2nd place.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Viola Davis. She won the Critics Choice, Globe, BAFTA, and SAG, and seen as grossly overdue for a win.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Moonlight. The script won at the Satellite, WGA, and USC Scripter awards.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Manchester By The Sea won at the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards. La La Land won the Globe and tied with Manchester at the Critics Choice awards. Most pundits say Manchester here, using the same logic they used for Wes Anderson for Budapest Hotel and David O.Russell for American Hustle. I am going to say La La Land. When a film wins Best Picture, it comes along with its screenplay. I also like its chances due to the Globe Screenplay win AND the Academy's intense love for the picture.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
It is going to be between Zootopia and Kubo. Zootopia won the PGA, Annie, Critics Choice, and Globe. Kubo won the BAFTA, and the BAFTAs tend to be the most accurate. With that said, the Academy goes with the box-office hit AND the Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks (Mainstream) here. I say Zootopia, but Kubo isn't far behind.
BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
It's either going to Toni Erdmann or The Salesman. I am going to say The Salesman for political reasons and because it won the Satellite for best foreign language film.
TECHNICAL WINS
La La Land - Art Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing, Song (City of Stars), Score, and Sound Mixing.
Jackie - Costume Design
Hacksaw Ridge - Sound Editing
The Jungle Book - Visual Effects
OJ: Made In America - Documentary (Not really technical)
La La Land is the big winner, taking home 10 Oscars.
SHORTS
Piper, Extremis, and Ennemis
