Episode 5 is Stephen Dorff's Emmy reel. That last ten minutes is the best work of his career. Wait. WHEN THE FUCK DID 5 COME OUT?!

So yeah, I'm definitely really liking this season.
But my "issue" with it is that he pretty much just took the S1 blueprint and put in different characters. Not that it's a bad thing (besides Band of Brothers, I think S1 is the best thing ever on TV), but for as much deserved criticism I throw S2's way... at least that was far different from what we had in S1.
Ali and Dorff are really great here. I can't wait for this week's episode.
Side note: the old age make-up is really, really incredible here.

Season 2 was better than most people give it credit for, but its biggest problem was trying to cram a full two seasons' worth of material into eight episodes. The True Detective format just couldn't sustain it. I also think that there are a lot of marked differences between Seasons 1 and 3. Season 1 was very much about Rust and Marty, but Season 3 is all about Wayne and his coping with the things he has done, many of which he is trying to remember. Roland is a supporting character, and arguably a less essential player than Amelia in the overall story. I'm holding out hope that Season 4 (if there is one) will be about a pair of female detectives. It says a lot that Pizzolatto wrote Wayne Hays to be a white man originally, but Ali came in and crushed the audition so thoroughly. I hope the same can happen for a pair of strong actresses. McAdams was fine with what she had in Season 2, but it felt like Pizzolatto was trying too hard to write a badass woman that he wound up overdoing it; Pizzolatto should take a leaf from The Shield's book when it came to Claudette Wyms; write what you know and then cast against type, and magic will happen.

Episode 6 was creepy as hell. Really great work from Scoot McNairy. Loved the ending, but now I’m impatiently waiting for next week.

Christ, the ending for episode 6 was creepy as hell.
Fantastic season so far. Ali, Dorff, and Ejogo are killing it.

Finally got caught up on this season, really digging it. Ali is delivering top notch work, and Dorff and Ejogo are really solid with some great highlights. McNairy has been much better the last 2 episodes as well. Wish Gadon had a better part to work with. Oh, and I really don’t care for Gummer, I think in general.
Great ending to the last episode. Can’t wait for the last two.

Holy shit, I really can’t emphasize enough how much I’ve been loving this season. If it doesn’t fall apart in the finale, I think I might end up preferring this season over season 1. Fingers crossed that it sticks the landing.

Fingers crossed that it sticks the landing. I can't agree that it would top Season 1, which is just impeccable from top to bottom whereas this season has a couple of weak points (Gummer, a few rather heavy-handed sequences), but for the most part this season has been on fire and I have high hopes for it to stick the landing.

Hard to believe there's only one episode left. Hoping for a satisfying wrap up, but these last two episodes have been crazy strong. Dorff has impressed me more, theycallmemrfish.

Great finale, but that giant exposition dump was too much.
Ali and Dorff were absolutely incredible.

So the finale.
I gotta be honest, the reveal of the mystery was a bit of a letdown, although I think Steven Williams's monologue is one of the best moments of the entire series, all three seasons, and would make for a fine guest nod reel at the Emmys. But I love the way that we see them put it to bed, so to speak, and to see Purple Hayes get peace of mind, even for a little bit, was quite touching. So all in all, a great season but not as pitch-perfect as Season 1.

All things considered , I really liked the season 3 finale and really dug the entire slow burn season thru out . The season finale did feel a bit rushed but no biggie really . Heartbreaking & got me kinda emotional (which usually never happens with me) but this was pretty well done . Doesn't reach the highs of season 1 but who cares season 3 was damn good in its own right. All hail King Ali and Dorff did his best work here as well. On a side note, the makeup and the editing/flash backs were all on point.

Unfortunately they didn't stick the landing. While it was never about the mystery, I wish the mystery had at least been more interesting than that. Acting was very strong, especially from Ali, but that sure went out with a whimper.

Finally got to watch the finale. All things considered I think they wrapped things up pretty good to an outstanding season. Some really great performances to close things out.

I liked this finale...
but I'm still in a camp that thinks Church In Ruins is the best episode of the series. (I rank Farrell right below MattyMc... even with Farrell's shit dialogue).

Finally started watching this now that I'm on break. I was incredibly skeptical going in and was honestly just gonna skip it altogether, as I had a strong suspicion from the trailers and all the information surrounding it that it would just come off as an overbearing self-parody of the first season. My suspicions were confirmed for the first half of the first episode and I was getting ready to dismiss it, but I gotta say, I was really roped-in by the mystery and now I'm hooked. Some parts of it still rub me the wrong way -- the three-tiered timeline hasn't really added anything so far, and other elements of it (the aesthetic, the general story structure with motifs like the two partners having long talks driving in the middle of nowhere) just feel too much like someone making a wannabe imitation of True Detective Season 1. Still, the performances are uniformly strong so far, and as I said, I'm really interested in the storyline by this point, so I'll stick with it. Certainly much more impressive than the second season had been by this point ... not that that's saying much.
