Lauryn Hill's Ex-Factor is my go-to for a heartbreak song.

Death Letter Blues - This song, a blues staple is one of the most devastating in American songwriting because it mixes the songs point into the form itself: what's more heartbreaking "the letter" or "the reality"?
In one almost unbearable lyric "I didn't know I loved her, until they began to let her down" (ie bury her).......this version is the original by Son House but a version by the great White Stripes helped people learn it too.

Rarely has "heartbreak" been as funny than it was for the gloriously named Mr. T Experience and their resident genius Frank Portman.
In his prime in the 90s he made a bunch of hilariously catchy records, was one of the best songwriters in Rock and Roll and for whom heartbreak was his standard default position.
