That may have been her finest work to date. The film was phenomenal, personal, intimate, beautiful, and Bening anchored it all with delicacy, charm, sharp wit, gravitas, and pathos. It's a role she'll certainly be remembered for if only more and more people end up seeing the film. At least critics didn't forget her this year and hopefully the word about her and the film spread. It definitely hit that same sweet spot that Beginners left and Mike Mills has officially become a new favorite of mine. But, my word, Bening. My #2 in Lead Actress this year barely behind Natalie Portman for Jackie.

Maybe because the film and script was pretentious but I didn't think she was great as the critics made her out to be. Hell Fanning and Gerwig were better in my opinion.

Yes. Ugh, what a horrible snub. But if they had the nerve to snub Adams, it wouldn't have been a big surprise if they left Benning out too.

Yep. Fantastic performance. A lineup with Huppert, Negga *and* Bening woulda been perfect.

Maybe so,but her best chance could B next year in Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (due out in the fall) as aging film noir queen Gloria Grahame,I've heard!!!! |

I didnt find anything particularly strong about her performance. I mean she was really good, no doubt and in a less competitive year she could easily make ones Top 5 but there were just so many better performer. All the nominees in fact were better.
and in the movie I preferred the kid over her.
