I love Ang Lee but WHY this year? Life of Pi was garbage. And Haneke? Please, Amour is a 2-hour ad for assisted suicide, which I needed after watching it.
The Wachowskis, Bieglow, and PTA are the best things about this lineup. Tarantino is an alright bonus. Wes Anderson and Zeitlin were snubbed big time.

Hate that Tarantino is here the final shootout is awful. Wish it were Dominik, Zeitlin, or Arcel I tried to boost Zeitlin as much as I could, but I was afraid the Wachowskis would miss.

Just replace Tarantino with Spielbargo, and we're all good.

This shits weird. How does Haneke get director, two lead nods, Screenplay, but miss BP? I get with an expanded 10 lineup it would've made it but it's real goofy

Get Life of Pi outta there and this lineup would basically be perfect. (I don't get it, it's a two-hour flasback about a boy and a tiger living on a boat while the main character pontificates about god in the present in fucking Toronto ).

Great job on the presentation.
Always interesting to see what weathers with time, whether it be best picture winner Argo missing out in most categories, or Life of PI, a film I like but seems like it has been forgotten in general pop culture terms, kept a strong showing.

@pendragon Where did Judi Dench place? I was sooo certain she was a shoe-in She was actually #8, 3 points away from making it. Damn! That's a close race. I voted her number one. I should have voted Donna Bae, Blunt and Field lower. They might have still made it if I put my never-gonna-get-in nominees higher. Sad!

That is one... interesting bunch of nominees. Can't say that it was predictable, at least. Obligatory whining: No Premium Rush love, especially for Shannon's hammy ass and the choreography No Prometheus in score, although the other nominees are aces. No bears, mice, or other animals outside of a tiger that can't swim or something (that was the most depressingly average movie, y'all) Seven Fucking PsychopathsAnne Hathaway is here for the wrong movie ( TDKR exists) Stuff I loved: Most everything, really. Lincoln and ZDT doing so well cheers me, I always thought they'd be on a bubble. Those makeup nominees! Those are some wicked nods in the music categories

Great presentation and list, thanks Pendragon. That Berg snub is genuinely baffling and wrong, though.

No Spielberg? dafuq? And Cloud Atlas almost swept? Hey pendragon don't tell me that Stephen hasn't bribed you. If I had bribed him, Cloud Atlas would've gotten in for Picture, Ensemble, Supporting Actor, and Cinematography.

WHY ON EARTH PSH is LEAD??? fucking crazy! The Muster will sweep every goddamn thing!!!! I agree with you on this one, Ray. I've seen the film several times and feel pretty strongly that it is very much Freddie Quell's story. I don't even think the title of the film refers to Lancaster at all. Yes, PSH's character plays a vital role but he ultimately is just a part of Freddie's journey (one that he overcomes towards the end). Unless "lead" just means having a lot of screentime, in which case yeah. The Muster sure is a fantastic movie.

Look at it this way: if Lancaster Dodd were played by an actress, would people have any issue calling her lead? Hoffman's absolutely lead. It may be more Freddie's story, but it's about how Freddie was affected and influenced by Dodd, and how Dodd himself was influenced by Freddie. Both characters undergo vast changes throughout.

So I'm going to avoid snark and negativity for once, and aside from mentioning the egregious Sam Rockwell snub, I will keep it positive only.
- Pleased to see the Prometheus nom for visual effects. - The Raid thankfully made choreography, hopefully this time it can take the crown. I'm also really please Anna K made it in here, as I forgot to vote it here. - Same with Holy Motors making it into make up, as I couldn't fit it in. - Anna Karenina should be the only choice in costumes. I mean seriously... - Production design lineup is near perfect. - Shame Killer Joe missed, but Seven Psychopaths and Moonrise Kingdom in Ensemble make it okay in the end. - Killer Joe screenplay = YAY - Original screenplay has a lot of good ones...Seven Psychopaths, Holy Motors, Zero Dark Thirty. - Kidman and Temple in Supporting Actress make up for the things I don't like here. - Well at least the rightful, and hopefully actual winner Mr. McConaughey made it in to Supporting Actor.
- Actress lineup is pretty great, and just re-affirms how this category was one of the Academy's best achievements this decade. - Liam Neeson is inspired folks. I'm almost tempted to give him my win vote now that he's there.
- Leos Carax...GO TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Well the Holy Motors made it, and that's all that matters since I'm not allowing negativity.
So I will click on 'Create Post' before I let any hate seep in...

Reactions: Great presentation, mostly great nominees, and a few surprises!
Was really hoping to see Garrett Hedlund as he is my win for On the Road
Also, wouldn't mind two rounds of "same film / different nominee": 1. Samuel L. Jackson should have made it in over DiCaprio 2. Gina Gershon over Temple
Great Job pendragon!
