TATSUYA NAKADAI And I don't know about the actress. As I mentioned on the MAR actors poll, there aren't enough actresses that get more than one or two important roles.

Toshiro Mifune, who is easily one of the best actors of all-time.

There's no one like Maggie Cheung--she's got this Garbo vibe, incredibly expressive but mysterious, and beautiful beyond belief.
And of course, Tony Leung.

I agree with Toshiro Mifune and Setsuko Hara.
I also really like Masayuki Mori, but I need to see more of his work.

Sharbs themoviesinner are also fans? Curious your fav perfs from Nakadai? I recently watched Harakiri where he's great, I didn't realize he was 28-29y/o when it was filmed, he seemed decently older! and then a few years later in Kwaidan he's so boyish. I also watched Sword of Doom where he's scarily serious - and just saw Kill! where he's so much lighter and hilariously charming. I've also seen the Kurosawas. So what else should I def see? I figure I'm missing all his non-samurai stuff, so The Human Condition I should get to, and what else...! Thanks

The film is a pretty great drama/thriller and I consider Nakadai's performance in it as his best.

I need to get on The Face of Another - I liked the other Teshigahara movies Pitfall and Woman in the Dunes. Looking at his filmography, I'm missing a lot, actually. I need to see Kill, Ran, Kagemusha, Belladonna of Sadness, The Sword of Doom, Samurai Rebellion, Hachiko, Onimasa, Giovanni's Island, Haru's Journey... and that's just the stuff I've heard about and catches my fancy.

Thanks The Human Condition is obviously a must (I almost skipped Easter family stuff two years ago to see all three in the theater back-back-back). The Face of Another is brilliantly anchored by him. Outside of the Kurosawa's I've seen those and Samurai Rebellion, which I don't remember much of his quality since it's the Mifune show through and through and Kwaidan which you've touched on. There are a bunch I want to get to out of extension of wanting to delve into Kobayashi's 'second rung' of films. Things like Black River, The Inheritance really catch my eye as well as Mikio Naruse's Woman Trilogy. Apparently he's been doing stuff within the last 5 years!

I grew up seeing Chow Yun Fat on TV shooting people down with guns, and Zhang Ziyi chopping people off with a sword - so I ALWAYS ALWAYS favor the people I grew up watching.
Not there wasn't enough Jet Li or Jackie Chan on TV but I just like Chow more. He's like a video game character and he's cooler!
