Apparently, this movie didn't have a trailer or any promotional material in Japan before opening - they just said it's Hayao Miyazaki's new movie and left it at that. Can you imagine the reactions when they walk in and they receive what appears to be an avant-garde horror film? I... don't think that's what they received. I don't know the particulars of the story but apparently the movie is very Ghibli and more like a summation of all of Miyazaki's oeuvre. But also a bit more complex and abstract than one might expect. Again, these are just things I picked up from skimming through some reviews but from what I can gather, it's not an avant-garde horror film. In other words, don't set your expectations in that direction. I'm exaggerating some, but that is sort of the kind of vibe the trailer is giving off. It certainly seems like a darker, more impressionistic tale than any he's done before. I can certainly see audience reactions splitting over it, is what I'm saying.

Fuck it, I'm liking my own two latest posts in this thread because the stuff within them is that good. All of them Barbies and Oppenheimers can go suck a nut, the real best movie of 2023 is here!

Well, he didn't officially retire this time, for the first time in... decades?

Oho, that writing on the archway. I used Google translate on it: "I was made by divine power" Edit: For those unaware, that is one of the phrases writ on the gate of Hell in Dante's Inferno

Oh wow, looks like the best Ghibli and/or Miyazaki since Howl's Moving Castle. Dangerously pumped now. That music, those visuals
