well Hunt going lead means she probably won't get hardly any votes  As for McConaughey...yeah I just don't see it. I get that he's absent for a good portion of the film but it's entirely his show by the third act. I think most people would agree that Emile Hirsch is lead and his character arc in the second half is about fighting for "ownership" over his sister, which directly parallels McConaughey's arc. The fact that Hirsch is lead (by virtue of screen-time and propelling most of the plot) makes me have to see McConaughey as co-lead by extension because third acts are more definitive than first and second acts and they're both on totally equal footing by the end of the film. The movie is ultimately about one particular theme, and they participate equally in conveying that theme. It's also hard just seeing the most powerful force in the film being relegated to supporting. McConaughey's character defines this film. Look no further than the title. He's lead. but I'll happily vote for him #1 in supporting, which is the silver lining  |
