Damn. Looks like Denzel might be doing some more equalizing in The 3qualizer..coming to theaters July 2021. His box office consistency the past 20 years has been amazing.

You can't say anything about the dudes box-office pull...........I have been pretty outspoken that this movie is crap on the surface (haven't seen it) and that people let it slide (repeatedly) just because his stuff earns money, but by the same token, you have to give him the credit for that money making part at the same time too. Really, with the exception of Cruise he's a flat out box office king and maybe another 1-2 others are equal or close (Hanks? DiCaprio?)

Worldwide..Cruise and DiCaprio rank ahead of him, although outside of the Mission Impossible franchise..Denzel's box office domestically has been better than Cruise in the last 10 years. He's equal or close with Hanks, and Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson is in that top 5 as well..so Cruise, DiCaprio, Washington, Hanks, and Johnson look like top 5 box office draws right now based on their name on the title.

I haven't even seen Equalizer 2 yet, but I've been reading Twitter and people are kind of going crazy over Denzel's performance in the movie. I'm not surprised in one sense, because he's basically always excellent, but I guess I was a bit concerned this being his first sequel that he might be tempted to phone it in.....yet apparently he's working overtime to elevate the material. And this is why he's Denzel, and almost a singular anomaly in American and film acting history. Nice article by The Ringer on why he might also just be the greatest working action star ( in contention for the greatest film actor, greatest stage actor.... stanning for this dude is like being a Michael Jordan fan.lol!). www.theringer.com/movies/2018/7/20/17595376/denzel-washington-equalizer-2-action-hero

Its been getting good WOM on social media from the general audience which shows with its OW box office performance and cinemascore of "A" which shows it pleased its fan base. Critics pretty much dismissed it (which I suspected they would), but it did have some fans like Kenneth Turan of the LA Times and Manohla Dargis of the NYT. Overall the producers and Sony have to be enthused with this outcome and I think EQ2 might have a better hold than the experts might think with Mission Impossible coming out next week.

I think it will take a slight hit but Denzel's base shows support especially when he's in kick ass mode.

That's pretty good for the two new openers. Dang, Denzel is consistent. Ouch at Skyscraper. I think Blumhouse needs to retire The Purge series... seriously and why did they even both releasing Unfriended at the theatre? The Purge movies are still making money. Even if they're not really topping each other, the new one is still making at least 3 times its budget. As for Unfriended, it should have gotten a better marketing push instead of just dropping the trailer by surprise only a month ago. And I would have liked for it to have had some connection to its predecessor.

Even if they're not really topping each other, the new one is still making at least 3 times its budget. Pretty much. These movies are made for so little they basically earn their investment back on opening weekend. This new Purge has already made over 7 times its budget worldwide, and it hasn't even been 20 days since it came out. Same with shitty low budget horrors like that Devil Inside from a few years back. They can drop 90% from weekend to weekend and be pulled from theaters after a month and it still doesn't matter; by the time audiences find out they're crap and bad word of mouth begins to spread (on day 2 of release), the studios have already made a profit.
