Hooper finally getting the reviews he deserved for The Danish Girl, talent really is winning on this blessed day. I'm not gonna lie, though, I'm actually really hyped to see this, and I don't even know anymore whether that anticipation is genuine or ironic. If Serenity welcomed us into 2019, Cats is gonna make it full circle by sending us off. I keep reading about all the bizarre shit that goes down in this film and it all sounds so weird and ill-conceived that I just need to witness it for myself. How could I not when Letterboxd has gems like this: I also read somewhere that in addition to the cat humanoids there are also smaller mouse humanoids that are being described as even more terrifying. Eraserhead wishes.

So they already had an improved version of this and chose not to send in to theaters or they just made an improved cut in a few days?? Could that "improved version" become one of year's best films?

Now with 30% more furry porn. But seriously, if they were gonna improve this movie, theyâd have to alter 70% of the damn film.

It's not getting nominated for anything anyways. I thought it would but that was back when it wasn't at 17% on RT and tanking hard. I wasn't expecting it to land this poorly.

If Tay-Tay couldnât make it on the shortlist for Song, thereâs no way this was ever gonna be a serious contender anyway.

Leaving aside everything else about the film and its reputation for a second, Swift's song is genuinely good and much more deserving than any of the pre-nominees I've listened to so far (except for Wild Rose; that had a lovely soundtrack too and I hope it gets in). I don't know if Beautiful Ghosts works in the context of the film but it's a very pretty and thoughtful tune, no doubt much better than the project deserved. Cats is a punchline for a reason (or a hundred, or a thousand), but for that track to miss while utter garbage like the Aladdin song gets selected is... not commendable. Watch the final lineup be 3/5 Disney or some shit.

I haven't listened to all the songs that were shortlisted yet, but I would say Beautiful Ghosts was better than I'm Standing With You, Stand Up, Catchy Song, Never Too Late, Spirit, and (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again.

Watch the final lineup be 3/5 Disney or some shit. If weâre talking about the end credits rendition, yes, and itâs lovely. But hearing the main number in context in film, itâs not only a disappointing disservice to what she wrote, itâs superfluous. That they placed right after the first rendition of âMemoryâ certainly tells you that, like they didnât have confidence in this song to do well enough on its own, so they had to lump it next to the most famous song from the show, that way theyâd *have* to give it some notice. But it doesnât really add anything. Itâs beautiful, but thereâs no reason for it to be there (and partly why Iâm not sure itâll make *my* personal line-ups). That said, it would be an all-timer compared to some of whatâs getting nominated. âSpeechlessâ would be a waste of a slot, but âSpiritâ would genuinely make me angry.
