God you guys have ruined the font for me. I'll never not immediately see DUNC now (complete with Pacino's face). Also, is the novel worth reading? I'm not big into epic sci-fi/fantasy literature but I'm a major fan of the Game of Thrones books (A Song of Ice and Fire) and was wondering if Herbert's prose is concise and entertaining or impenetrable and overly-florid.

If you’re a fan of ASOIAF, you should absolutely read Dune. They’re quite similar, and unlike a lot of sci-fi I’ve read, Herbert’s writing is very prosaic and not too heady at all.

Jesus Christ, the doomsaying. Reshoots aren't that uncommon, especially for big budget projects, and it's likely they would've been done much earlier had there not been a pandemic. And I guess we're just overlooking the first bit of what Isaac was saying about "Dune [looking] amazing."

"but it happened with Star Wars too" -- oh god he's trying to warn us, isn't he? Re-shoots (or pick-ups, since most people conflate the two) are actually more common than people realize, especially on big budget movies where they tend to have more money than they really need. By themselves, they don't actually mean anything's wrong with the film.

I was making a joke about the fact that he compared it to Star Wars, not expressing genuine concern in the fact that they're doing reshoots, lol.

Not worried at all. Denis Villeneuve is a perfectionist.

A lot of people have this mostly unfounded assumption that re-shoots means a movie will be bad.

Yeah, this comment doesn’t worry me one bit. For reasons that other people above have already stated.

What do they mean trailers not ready? Wonder Woman was meant to come out in June, you can bet your ass they are trailer ready.

They don't want bootleg cam versions flooding the internet for two weeks before the US gets the trailers on the 21st.

Warner Bros has completely botched the marketing layout for this movie. It's like they want it to fail. We should've had a teaser trailer in May/June to tide us over through the summer and let audiences know this project actually exists. Then a second, longer trailer could debut with Tenet and cement the hype for the next few months. Now WB projects that don't come out until 2021, like that epic The Batman trailer and the much anticipated (for some reason) #SnyderCut, are already dominating the social media zeitgeist, leaving little room for ol' Dune to build anticipation for a December release (if that even happens, which seems doubtful). Now the hardcore fans of this project are going to be faced with a barrage of shitty CAM-versions of the trailer before WB deigns to finally release it on Sept 9 online. Ridiculous.

You make some really good points but I think Warner Bros is taking the Avatar approach here , which is what 20th Century Fox/James Cameron did. They didn't even show a full trailer until October and it worked out well for them in the end. Expect a total on slot of Dune previews coming up!

The narrative of Avatar was "this is the follow-up project of the director of the highest-grossing movie ever made, with groundbreaking 3D filmmaking and one of the most exorbitant budgets ever." The promotion was literally all about Cameron's ego and this movie that came with such a massive price tag. It's not really the same thing here. I do think they can stage a great blitz campaign with Dune and get people excited, especially in the wake of Tenet, but it needs to happen ASAP.
