If Denis does this right, there will be several moments when audiences realize Paul is just the coolest dude. I would say this differs from Star Wars/LOTR/etc. where Luke, Frodo, etc. are very likeable characters, but not #swag. I would have given Villeneuve the one note that Paul should have some vibes like Steve McQueen in the '68 Thomas Crown Affair with maybe a bit of young Josh Hartnett, transposed into a more intellectual milieu.

Can’t wait. Villeneuve is the best director in the game and this looks to be like a visual spectacle.

Chalamet is miscast in most of the things. Half of his roles need to be played by Austin Abrams and... the other half... I'd distribute to other kids out there, especially Justice Smith, the best lad of this age group, imo.

There's a look you need, and these dudes you name don't have it. I watched Dash & Lily (which was good), and the Jurassic World sequel or whatever (which were bad). If you could cross River Phoenix or Leo with Hartnett, we're talking business, but people need to admit Chalamet has the looks, and their faves don't.

Chalamet is so miscast in this. I said what I said. He's at a strange stage where he looks young for 25 (Bale was younger than that when he did American Psycho)...... and he's overexposed off-screen so he's at a disadvantage to believe in these period epics, you almost wanna laugh.... but then where you'd think he'd excel, he doesn't (Rainy Day in NY, Beautiful Boy) so what gives? Anyone casting him (an arguable LaGuardia parody) instead of Tye Sheridan is outtttta their mind. Next up -- Willy Wonka??

I haven't read the novel, but based on comments I've seen from people who have, it seems like Chalamet could actually be well-cast here and quite appropriate for the role in terms of physicality at least. And him looking younger than his age might work to his advantage considering the character of Paul is (I think) supposed to be in his teens at the start of the novel(?) Do people here who have read the novel feel like he's miscast? If those saying he's miscast aren't familiar with the character in the book when we've only seen a couple trailers at this point, I guess I'm wondering what the issue is exactly...

Chalamet is a perfect choice to portray the role and pretty much everyone who has read the book will tell you this.

I like Chalamet well-enough, and I've no doubts about his acting talent, but it's not just off-screen. Too much on-screen exposure, so much that you start longing to see other faces. Tye Sheridan is totally one of those kids I'd rather see in some of these roles.

bump Denis did a recent interview with Total Film magazine and he makes some really good points and I love how confident he is with this film. Some good excerpts thru out featuring some good quotes as well. First of all, the enemy of cinema is the pandemic. That’s the thing. We understand that the cinema industry is under tremendous pressure right now. That I get. The way it happened, I’m still not happy. Frankly, to watch Dune on a television, the best way I can compare it is to drive a speedboat in your bathtub. For me, it’s ridiculous. It’s a movie that has been made as a tribute to the big-screen experience." variety.com/2021/film/news/denis-villeneuve-dune-streaming-1235043818/I love his quote on facing your fears "I have some kind of a self-destructive device inside me to take projects that are out of my reach," he acknowledges. But in those moments of uncertainty he would turn to a mantra from a book that shaped his adolescence: "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear."Also love this guy's confidence! The first thing was to prove that there was a beautiful, popular movie that can exist, and I think that I proved that – everybody at Warner Bros. and Legendary, they are 100 percent behind the project. They feel that it would need a really bad outcome at the box office to not have a Dune: Part Two, because they love the movie. They are proud of the movie, so they want the movie to move forward. And they still did half of it. So, you know, I’m very optimistic. www.cinemablend.com/news/2572185/why-dune-denis-villeneuve-optimistic-about-sequel-hbo-max-zendayaI'm gonna go to Barnes & Noble to get the new issue of Total Film (which is out now!)

Taking with a massive grain of salt, but apparently Anne Thompson saw the film at a screening and rates Chalamet, Isaac and Ferguson as performers to watch. I don't know if I see the first being a thing (I feel like all of Paul's best stuff is in the back half of the story), but I do think Ferguson is a stealth threat for a nomination and Isaac does have probably the showiest role of the first half of the book. I don't see it panning out quite like this, but it's cool to see someone in the pundit world responding favorably to it as more than simply a tech contender.

Any word on Rampling? I don't know how large her role is, but she really registered in the trailer.

I’m having Interstellar flashbacks with early Twitter losing their minds and critics thinking it’s merely good.
