He's very talented and I love what he did in Call Me By Your Name, but I gotta agree with you guys that Chalamet's persona seems very... idk? Annoying? He always looks like he's trying too hard to be cool or something like that. Anyways, he's a good actor and I'd like to see him in Dune! Weird take. He generally comes off as quite awkward and self-effacing in interviews. Very sharp contrast with a contemporary like Ansel Whatshisface who just screams try-hard douche. It’s also not his fault that Tumblr tweens have cottoned to him to the psychotic extent that they have. He seems like a nice guy, I didn't mean to say he was over-pompous or something like that. It's just that he does seem a bit try-hard when compared to others like Lucas Hedges, who's just more effortlessly charming and sweet.

I really do like Timotay but people really need to calm down with the accolades. This kid has made a handful of films, it`s WAY too soon to anoint him'the greatest' anything yet or for a long time.

Nice. Really glad Villeneuve is getting this made still! I think Chalamet is an excellent choice . can't wait to see who else will join the cast.

Great casting. I still haven't seen Ferguson's Mission: Impossible roles so I'm not too familiar with her as an actress, but she has the exact look that I always envisioned for the character.

She's very good in the Mission: Impossible films. Ferguson has an Ingrid Bergman-esque style and panache to her, and I can definitely see that translating quite well into playing Lady Jessica. But if you're eager to see Ferguson in things, avoid The Snowman at all costs.

I definitely plan on catching the last two Mission films at some point. I've heard great things about her work in them

At this point I'd rather see Villeneuve direct a YTP

Greig Fraser is the DP. I wonder why Denis didn't go with Deakins. Guess he is busy shooting the new Sam Mendes film.

While it's a shame we won't get any desert vistas from the Deak, Fraser ain't exactly chopped liver. He's shot some beautiful stuff ( Foxcatcher, Lion, Mary Magdalene), and I trust in Villeneuve to be able to push Fraser to his absolute limits and beyond. He was able to wring Deakins's career-best work out of him for 2049, after all.

What's gonna be the budget on this? $100 million plus?

What's gonna be the budget on this? $100 million plus? Considering Villeneuve intends it to be two films, probably more. Blade Runner 2049 didn't light the box office on fire, but it did very well with home video sales, and I'm wondering if that will be taken into account with this. 2049's budget was around 150-185 million, so I could see Dune being around that. It doesn't look like they're going to be casting A-list names like Gosling/Ford/Leto for this, though, so that helps somewhat in the salary department.

There won't be 2 films made if the first one flops which is likely to. Unless he's doing it immediately back to back (LOTR style) which in that case the 2nd part might be sold to Netflix. All in all I don't really care if it flops I just really want it made.

All in all I don't really care if it flops I just really want it made. I don't think he would bother to make the film if there was a risk of the second one not happening. I feel like he's going to be making budgetary conciliations or, at the very least, signing a two-film deal that makes it a certainty that they are made consecutively. I think the smart thing to do would be to do it as Jackson did with The Lord of the Rings, and shooting sequences of both films concurrently, rather than finishing one film before going on to do the other. The studio interference with Lynch's Dune is so notorious that I figure any studio who is willing to make this movie in the first place is going to give their director a bit of a longer leash. Villeneuve got to be able to make Blade Runner 2049 as he wanted it, and even though it wasn't a huge blockbuster, it still was a critical darling that netted two Oscars at the end. I think that if they're willing to put him on this project and if he's so gung-ho to do it, then I figure they're fine with the two-film plan.
