Recently been noticing a lot of characters who don't keep their phones locked with a password needed to open it... does anyone actually do this??? Not just passwords, but now with the advent of fingerprint locks, I want to see a film where someone needs to call from another person's phone but because they can't unlock it, they have to sever a thumb in order to use it . . . only for it to be the wrong thumb.

Small but really annoying detail in Those that Wish Me Dead when the villains break into the dudes house and just open his laptop which conveniently has no password.

When characters brush their teeth for roughly five seconds. You have all these people with perfect pearly whites and their dental care regime is appalling. Say with you want about Butch's missus in Pulp Fiction, but at least the woman knew how to brush her teeth.
This is more of a TV one, but it bugs me lately when something big happens or a major plot point is revealed at the end of an episode, but then the following episode opens with a scene or two (or more) completely unrelated to that important event or moment.

Lazy Scriptwriting 101 : The "noble side character who informs the main character" piece of writing because we can't take a complex lead character and have to make him simple Example: Blackkklansman: JDW character in Blackkklansman is not particularly political but don't worry - his girlfriend is! - which of course you can layer all sorts of daft and unrealistic/anachronistic shit on - while his character and hers (Patrice, she's fictional btw) talk about Superfly vs. Shaft at a specific level nobody did at the time. See if you made HIS character political in the first place he might have a natural conflict he's dealing with which would be ......you know.......organically dramatic and interesting and complicated for an audience too.......but alas no, it's his girlfriend that is and she can enlighten him about his own job, worldview, and thoughts on such things.

This is more pet peeves at people who go to the movies: 1. That wing of criticism that attempts to explain "why" an audience liked a film while you did not - independent of filmmaking itself - and only in how you read the movie, or the "right" way to read the movie as if there is only one way to read it........I mentioned this before on Barbie - you can dislike it on purely filmmaking grounds, not necessarily its cultural politics but attacking its cultural politics doesn't make you "afraid of women", a Trump supporter or an idiot......of course you may be.....but still 2. People explaining to me things that are obvious "pacinoyes, the purpose of this thread is" which is a lot like "the purpose of this movie is"......yeah I know the purpose of the thread .......I know John Lone didn't give the performance of 1987 .......and that John Q isn't "good"......at all........you think that.....great.....good for you.....but that's an unnecessary argumentative technique only.......and also the sky is blue...... 3. People in the movie theater asking what just happened when nothing - like literally nothing happened - people fearful that they missed something huge when there was only dialog - not anything that was a change in development at all............ This is always a thing........but man, is it ever a thing now...... 4. Movies misusing characters they worked so hard to set up in the first place - Talk To Me sets up 2 supporting characters - her best friend and that best friends brother and turns both into peripheral spectators.......it's a pretty good, randomly written movie......and those characters could be written in a way that makes them far more involved and with better character arc

No one ever says bye on the phone.
No one hardly eats their food when talking to someone else in a restaurant

No one ever says bye on the phone. No one hardly eats their food when talking to someone else in a restaurant The food one is at least understandable from and actor’s perspective doing a lot of takes. But it is a bit annoying when they leave and a basically untouched plate of food is still sitting there.

No one ever says bye on the phone. No one hardly eats their food when talking to someone else in a restaurant This is particularly true btw in The Big Bang Theory where in every show they sit and play with their food but rarely put it in their mouths

Documentary genre specific: When a documentary spends way too much time observing its subject dicking around their house ITS NEVER INTERESTING. Indie Specific: Where you can take at least a third of a film's runtime if you removed all the scenes of the central character looking pensively.
