I have my issues with some of their questions but my results are about as libertarian and left as it gets (I'm much closer to the libertarian (bottom) left corner than to the center). If these are the options, I would however identify as a left-wing libertarian aswell without the test.

I think this scheme is a bit poorly done. If you pick "very religious" you're being put in the "authoritarian" section. A few economic answers in the "left" section, and you find yourself in the "communism" answer despite communism being explicitly against religion. Also, the poll doesn't take into account the economic situation of these days, where in the EU for example being left means "opening/free-market" and right means "closure/protectionism".

The test put me basically all the way to the left and like halfway down on the liberatarian, so I guess that, though I usually see myself as on authorotarian side to be honest.

Also, the poll doesn't take into account the economic situation of these days, where in the EU for example being left means "opening/free-market" and right means "closure/protectionism". That's merely a matter of perspective. Many people think very differently about left/right. For instance: -many people think of Hitler as far right, yet the political compas has him close to the center -many people think of Hillary Clinton as left, however the political compas has her to the far right, even to the right of Trump -many people think of EU governments as left, although the political compas has them all comfortably on the right -many people think of the european socialist parties as being to the left, yet the political compas has them to the right These are all distinctions I agree with and many other people do aswell. The reason a lot of people do not is because left and right have lost their meaning or perhaps never really had one. Historically the left were the disenfranchised and the right were the people in power. The entire distinction is based on the seating in the french national assembly from 1789, when the royalists seated to the right and the revolutionaries seated to the left. It's hard to come up with any meaningful distinction if that is your basis. Technically you could twist and turn things so that almost anything fits to the left and almost anything fits to the right as you can redefine what left and right means as you see fit. Generally "opening" is more associated with the left and "closure" more to the right but if you get into free-market and protectionism things get a lot more fuzzy. For instance Marx (who is the poster boy for the far left) was against the free-market, while libertarians typically want the most free market possible and the smallest state. On The Political Compas they went with an economic distinction between left and right which I think is (one of) the most meaningful way(s) to look at it. However both left and right have aquired so many meanings that it's impossible to boil it down to one thing. Unfortunately this encourages making politics a show rather than an actual debate but it's hard to change it. Reality is too complex for such labels. However while I think some of the questions are questionable (to say the least), I actually like general measures of the political compas because it's easy to decipher.
