'Everyone better give housekeepers, nannies and landscapers a ride home': Amber Heard sparks FURY after tweeting a tone deaf 'racist' joke in an attempt to criticize ICE checkpoints
The 32-year-old actress posted a tweet early on Tuesday morning warning followers about an ICE checkpoint near her home in Los Angeles She sarcastically suggested that people should help their 'housekeepers, nannies and landscapers' to avoid it Although Amber appears to have been trying to highlight unfair stereotypes used in order to justify President Trump's ICE policies, it did not go down well Some people accused her of racism, while others simply noted that she 'could have phrased her tweet differently'
Amber was actually one of several celebrities who protested the Trump administration's family separation policy in June
Definitely not tactful but I'm sure she meant well.

She meant well, but her words imply that she thinks that all Hispanics have low-skilled jobs and that they're all in America illegally.

She meant well, but her words imply that she thinks that all Hispanics have low-skilled jobs and that they're all in America illegally. All of them? I don't see how that's what's implied. It's a tone deaf way to put it, for sure, but not only is it not a joke (I don't get the impression that she was trying to be humorous at all; the bottom half of the screenshot makes it evident that it's coming from a place of genuine anger and disappointment towards the policy/government), it seems to me that her intention was the exact opposite: not to mock or belittle Hispanic people in low-skilled jobs, but to protect them. To say, don't leave these people at the mercy of ICE officers if you have the means to prevent that. You can argue that it's a condescending or insensitive way to air out that preoccupation, but I do think context is key here. I'm not an expert on the demographics of the region, but it doesn't seem to me to be any mystery that Hispanics hold a significant portion of those jobs in Hollywood, and thus will be directly affected by this policy. I'm in no hurry to grab my pitchfork and go after her over this.

I don't think it wasn't a joke. Fairly sure she's just trying to be a virtuous lefty and people think she's being racist.

Oh honey, I think what she meant to say was that everyone needs ice in their Mojito.
