I thought Orient Express was a pile of shite, but I was expecting it to be, so it was hardly a surprise. Death On The Nile is just a much better story, with better potential to turn into a good film. Also, it doesn't have one of the most ludicrously stupid murderer outcomes in history; so I have my fingers crossed for this all the same.

Holding out for someone to adapt The Murder of Roger Ackroyd in a way that makes sense.

Yeah, no.
Also, how does this seem "to be a bit of genius counter-programming"? There's a huge overlap in the target audiences for this and Star Wars. Something like Book Club would be intelligent counter-programming, this is just Fox risking shooting themselves in the foot.

Branagh was totally wrong for Poirot, and his basic filmmaking skills were a horrible match for Murder On The Orient Express, so I'm not glad that this Agatha Christie franchise is taking off.

Yeah he doesn't deserve to direct the legendary Christie's crime series , they should hand it over to Someone with deep instinct on crime stuff like Fincher or QT (his recent Hateful Eight pretty much reminds me to Orient Express) I think the Coen bros would be a perfect fit.

It's definitely a shame. It would've been a sure thing, and definitely welcome, but Branagh is butchering this both in front of and behind the camera. Why couldn't they cast fairly recent Oscar winner Jean Dujardin or pretty much anyone else?

Let me jump in on this hate bandwagon for a second-- It really is astonishing how nearly every single one of Branagh's decisions was hopelessly misguided, both in front of and behind the camera. I can't think of that many performances from last year that I detest more than I do his.

First film was very very bad. Among 2017's worst. Even the performances feel dry and completely labored. (Except Depp )

At least his decision to adapt this Agatha Christie novel isn't as absurd as his first try. Death on the Nile has a solid adaption already, but it's nowhere as great as Murder on the Orient Express and as well as this one of her best books. I'd just hope that he would cast someone else as Poirot, cause I can't see him in this role and the reactions to Murder on the Orient Express, which I refused to see so far, seem to agree with me.

Really don't get why he wants to do this or why he thinks he's a big enough star to topline an all star cast in service of the work - dude had killed Frankenstein and Murder On The Orient Express already etc. - there seems to be quite a disconnect between what he is and what he thinks he's good at......

So Gal Gadot is cast in the movie. Hmmm, If I had to guess, Lily James will get the other role and if they are smart, the would cast Dan Stevens as Simon.

I still haven’t seen Orient Express. But I reckon it sucks, because I’d have watched it by now if it didn’t. I’m kidding. I have no opinion either way.

It's kind of hilarious in its awfulness, and I think Branagh designed it that way. Nothing so over-the-top silly as that movie was ever meant to be taken at all seriously. I see it as Branagh's parody of the current Hollywood system.

didn't bother with Branagh's Orient Express but there's no way his Nile adaptation is more disappointing than the 1978 version. Well, on second thought I guess there is because he's playing Poirot and not Ustinov.

This is a huge gamble. I guess the audience for this might skew a bit older than Star Wars, but lots of middle aged Gen-Xers are obviously huge SW fans considering it was their thing first.

I love the 1978 much better movie than Murder in the Orient Express with Finney Miscast.
not seen Branagh murder, but looks like Gadot will be Lois Chilles

Greta Scacchi worked with Kenneth Branagh in theater in the play The Entertainer so hopefully Branagh put her in the cast of Death On The Nile. One can only dream.

www.indiewire.com/2019/10/death-on-the-nile-kenneth-branagh-agatha-christie-sequel-cast-1202177794/‘Death on the Nile’: Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie Sequel Snags Annette Bening, Gal Gadot, and Armie Hammer Plus Russell Brand, Letitia Wright, Rose Leslie, and somehow, yes, even more stars. Kate Erbland 2 hours ago @katerbland Kenneth Branagh stars in Twentieth Century Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express.” “Murder on the Orient Express” Nicola Dove Kenneth Branagh’s first foray into the rich world of Agatha Christie murder mysteries, the 2017 surprise hit “Murder on the Orient Express,” boasted a starry cast of big names, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Penélope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Lucy Boynton, and Daisy Ridley, so it’s no surprise that his imminent sequel is just as star-studded. As production commences on “Death on the Nile,” based on Christie’s novel of the same name, the full cast has been announced, and it’s a doozy. Branagh returns as both director and star, slipping back into the famed mustache that makes his hairy Belgian detective Hercule Poirot so hard to miss. He’ll be joined by a motley assortment of potential murderers, including Tom Bateman (who reprises the role of Bouc from “Murder on the Orient Express”), Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright. For fans of both superhero films, awards-worthy dramas, and “Absolutely Fabulous,” this is a cast for everyone.
