I've read that a lot of those kids were not actually coming with their real parents! They were human traffickers posing as "parents" . The goal was to avoid detention . Not sure if it's 100% true , though . Maybe those are just lies created by GOP propaganda machine .

In Italy, when we have this kind of doubts, they do DNA test. There are lots of children coming here by themselves too, even under 10 yo.

That sounds suspicious as fuck, and it's exactly the type of fake news/conspiracy theory that gets made up to make the rounds online, rile up the people who support this policy and legitimize it/shut down dissent. I wouldn't buy that before looking into it properly.

If they were actually trafficked children they should be getting the help they need and not chained up in a cage somewhere. Whether that's true or not it doesn't make what they did any better.

I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said better. It’s just wrong and morally bankrupt.
And I’m sure somewhere in the world, DDS is reaching for any justification.

This could honestly be read as an Onion headline.
(Thought I’d post in here since it’s related to border patrol).

Mike used a brilliant metaphor a few months back that perfectly encapsulates how fucked up, regressive and polarized the whole world is right now: people will burn their own houses down as long as it means their neighbors have to smell the smoke for fifteen minutes. Everything Trump and the GOP have done throughout this administration so far has been a test of just how much people are willing to give up and how low they're willing to sink to make the other side smell the smoke. Trump's explosion onto the political scene lifted up the curtain to reveal what America (or at least a considerable chunk of it) still is and will continue to be for a long time, and all of what's happening is nothing but the inevitable result of that. Trump's ultra-partisan, ultra-tribalist "us v. them" rhetoric will continue to be pushed to absurd lengths as the same people who claim that America is "the land of the free" or "the greatest country in the world" accept manifest human rights violations and blatant corruption because it's okay when our guys do it. This was obvious enough last year, when the president outright bragged about sexual assault and openly defended neonazis killing people in broad daylight to absolutely no reaction from his party, and it's only growing more and more unabashed as time goes along and he feels more empowered to crank it up several notches. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, just consider that this semester alone has seen the president explicitly claim that he can do whatever he wants with no regard for the law because he's above it and is granted the right to pardon himself, even though that's completely incompatible the very concept of democracy; that in the year of our lord 2018, the self-proclaimed leaders of the free world are imprisoning immigrant children in cages (and now apparently under the surveilance of pedophiles!), employing the same barbaric tactics and rhetoric that was used in the darkest nadirs of our recent world history; that the government will openly lie to its constituents even when the facts are absolutely, indisputably, unquestionably clear, call those lies the truth and then gaslight the people by pinning the media and any voices of dissent (regardless of how moderate) as the true liars, as well as scapegoats to be taken down; that the ruling party is working overtime to undermine centuries-old institutions until the very system of checks and balances is lost to partisan grandstanding and ideological tug of war. Consider that the president routinely advocates that people be denied due process of law, whether it be immigrants or even gun owners. That you can be a known child molester and get relentless support from the president as long as you're right-wing enough. That a supposedly secular nation that protects religious freedom as a basic right has government officials quoting Bible verses to justify their policies and passing laws banning practitioners of different faiths. If all of this seems okay, it's because anything goes now as long as it's done by the right people, and because everything can be dismissed as a matter of opinion. Everything can be a valid political belief if enough people rally up around it, even when those beliefs directly contradict and undermine all the progress that the West has made over the last few centuries. When there are "very fine people on both sides", anything can be spun into an acceptable position. These shouldn't be "left vs. right" issues; criticizing institutionalized attacks on human rights shouldn't be a libtard stance. Trump and the US have more in common with the likes of North Korea and Venezuela than most would like to admit, and people seem to welcome that. What this presidency shows is just how fragile all those supposedly rock-solid republican institutions and democratic principles truly are, and how quickly people are willing to destroy them if it means they get the last laugh over anyone who doesn't think like them on every single political issue. The NYT recently published poll results showing that a considerable portion of Trump supporters fundamentally disagree with a lot of his policies, but they continue to stand by him anyway because they feel he's treated unfairly by the press. Every new perceived attack makes them go to bat for him even harder, even though he and his party are actively working against the interests of the low-income working class (attempting to strip away health care, overtaxing the middle class while giving the richest stratas a tax cut, engaging in careless tariff wars that are already beginning to cost stateside jobs, generally doing whatever is at reach to fuck over women/POC/LGBT rights). Obviously this isn't just the US; it's happening everywhere including (especially?) my country, and it'll only get worse from here. But at least we can take solace in the fact that smoke smells real bad.

Thanks for legit scaring the shit out of me. Seriously. ..if you read a Trump supporter the riot act, they simply say: nobody's perfect.
I'm confused cause I don't know if he's trolling the Republicans or what. He's only been one for 18 months.
His voters seem to love his anti brown people stance regarding the wall even though hello, people come here via plane and stay here too.
I think most of this has to do about certain groups losing power and they don't know how to deal with it. Well, get used to it cause years from now the script will flip and people will wise up and realive his/her best interest will be better served by those who actually share similar plights.

Warning: I have a very mixed controversial opinion on this matter at the moment (with some rant)....
Let me start by stating that I’m sure this action will reflect a lot poorly on both the orange one and that current disgrace of an “administration”. I’m used to be very neutral to equally open-minded about republicans, but both Trump and the GOP have despicably made that a lot impossible for the party to become redeemable in my eyes for a long time (and I know that I'm not very alone in that sentiment). That reputation is now an uglier one. I pity some of the moderate conservatives out there that may happen to be against this kind of drastic action and just the orange one’s “administration” in general, if there are really still any at this point.
Now I actually do feel sorry for the children that are being affected by the zero tolerance policy, likely felt distraught about their separation from families, and, in some cases, are essentially treated like pawns to the entire mess in the first place (mostly by their parents’ dilemma). Those kids in the end are really just the unfortunate ones without a real say of their situation. Again, they have my sincere pity for being targets of that unfortunate decision. However, it is really a bit hard for me to feel the same way about the parents that should really know better in hindsight given their circumstances. I’m just saying there *shrug*. I mean it’s kind of funny how some that even chose to side with Trump, with an illegal status, are suddenly surprised to find themselves deported by the next day (or have their children taken away from them). Perhaps everything that has been coming out of Trump, his zealous supporters, this "administration", and even the apathetic types out there since have all left a little cynical taste in my mouth.... Can anyone believe how this has been only two freaking years with this fat bastard?! The American Dear Leader at this point? Not to mention how he's currently left capable of countless recklessness due to the feebleness of humanity?! Sometimes I can’t help but to feel how a certain eight deadly words made almost too much sense for me given this entire context, at least during times like this moment. smdh
Mexico has a recent presidential election this month. Perhaps AMLO could do something a bit better to facilitate the lives of the deported and oppressed around this time?
