I know France won the World Cup in 98 with a mannequin playing up front, but hopefully they drop that turd this time around, and stick Dembele up there. Obviously never going to happen, but fingers crossed.

That was a brilliant match. France is gonna win this for sure, they are too strong (GK, defenders, fantastic midfielders, great strikers). Or maybe not. Go Croatia!!

July 11, 1982 I was in England and had to watch it on a borrowed black and white tv. I meant i wasn't sure they're gonna win again! everything turns upside down lately... It was Italy. Of course they can't win this world Cup. 🙄

This has been an incredible World Cup. England was superior in the first half. But Croatia completely dominated the second half. They were stronger, faster and their midfield is just top notch, it works brilliantly. England's aspirations dealt a massive blow after Mandzukic's goal Perisic was tremendous today, always a constant threat on the attack. Mandzukic was lethal. Needless to say, Modric was class today, easily the best player in this World Cup, the kind of legend that I'll be talking about for years.
Regardless of everything, this Croatia has already made history. A country with a population of just 4/5 million producing so many talents and reaching a World Cup final? that's goddamn impressive. Also, winning all the matches in extra time is not for everyone. Obviously, this Modric generation will want more but France is still the favourite. Massive respect to England too, they also did a fantastic World Cup, very solid work from Southgate, the man is a classy coach.

Don't really watch soccer (aside from some women's because they're hot), but an England-France final would have been so great for so many obvious cultural reasons. Would have actually watched that.

I'm reflecting now that this is almost over...
Good things about this cup so far: 1. I think it reached the peak around the time Germany was eliminated - Kroo's amazing kick that lifted them above Sweden just to go down to Korea (lol) the next game. Argentina looking really flimsy, but getting by late just to have France put it on them next. And that epic Belgium comeback game. All that happened in a span of 5-6 days but it has not been as entertaining since that.
2. Ronaldo leaving early, so he signs with Juventus earlier by a few weeks. Not sure which is better news, Real Madrid's reign looking like it's finally about to end or Juventus having one of the most dangerous rosters next year. If anything, their front line is already a done deal and any additions to make would be to the middle or back line - though not that those are bad or anything. But Ronaldo-Dybala-Mandzukic (and Douglas Costa possible rotating)...just saying that front has already been sealed and it's a sick front.
3. Belgium looking like a fun team to watch for most of the event. De Bruyne is a candidate for MVP despite Belgium's exit. Courtois had that amazing save of Neymar which would've gave Brazil a tie. Not a bad kick by a heavily hyped hundred million dollar player, but a better save. I think his anticipation and his height made the difference. If any one player dragged them down a bit it's Lukaku as he missed nearly all passes his way in all of the following games: Japan, Brazil, and France. (Didn't get even one) Something about him makes him not get the ball in the right spot and time continuously.
4. Croatia sticking around longer, so I can think of banging their hot prime minister longer.
5. England-France final avoided. I just... don't really want to see that. Just find that kind of final boring.
Bad things about the cup so far:
1. Brazil not sticking around longer, so can't make fun of the ultimate gossip column Neymar, for longer. He's too funny. He's a part time actor as well as being a full-time soccer player. Part-time hair aficionado too, I hear - as he brought his hairdresser to Russia from Brazil for the whole trip. Doesn't get funnier than that.
2. Poor Russia. Didn't deserve what they got after mounting that furious 2nd half of extra time play vs Croatia, it was a well defended 2nd goal... but it went in anyways; was a really good goal. They showed they're just as good as the team playing in the finals, but penalty kicks pulled Croatia through.
3. Macron's painfully smug face. He met with Trump in Brussels today. Guy just looks like an ass-kisser, and probably kissed Trump's ass a hundred times in that meeting.
4. The fact that now I am anticipating 2019 women's World Cup now... and not very interested in the final game. My U.S. girls are expected to win again, as we know. That lineup will be one of the greatest lineups ever assembled in history, both genders considered.
5. Somewhere in my heart, I feel kinda sorry for Portugal. I wasn't rooting for them coming into this tournament, but I have to give credit where credit is due... that Ronaldo is the most accomplished player in the world right now. Having won 4 out of last 5 UEFAs (his only blemish is that loss a few years ago to the team he now plays for), having won the last Euros, and now retiring from Madrid just because he has now become too accomplished. And still looking as strong as ever even in this world cup (that game with Spain, for one). And doing all this at age 32/33. Based on those things, don't think he deserved to go out like that just because Uruguay won a 2-1 game where I wouldn't say Uruguay necessarily dominated. And Uruguay didn't look too good against France and were obviously not a top 4 level team. Just maybe Portugal would've looked much better - but they didn't get a chance to play them because.... that's soccer, and one loss in the knockout stage stymies you from showing everything you have.

He just needs to play consistently in the final. Kudos to Croatia of course, especially because they're such a young nation, but I remind you that Uruguay won 2 world cups and 2 Olympic games with a population of about 3 millions.
