Who's your pick? I decided to keep it to directors who've released at least three projects, otherwise I'd be compelled to have Haneke and Park Chan-Wook at the top haha. Didn't wanna list too many, I kinda tried to be objective but let the record show outta this bunch I'd rank Nolan and DOR last. Some others like Asghar Farhadi and Olivier Assayas were tough to leave out bc they have masterful work this decade. But the poll is just fun. List or pick whoever.
I'll go with Fukunaga as my #1. He has maybe the greatest directorial achievement this decade with True Detective, the effective and intense Gothic romance Jane Eyre, the very well made and unsettling Ghana-set Beasts of No Nation. Trivia: all four of his films so far have shot in different countries. Looking forward to something lighter and goofier from him with Maniac this year.
Any lesser known filmmakers? Someone not talked about enough or whose films are way underseen?

Refn should be in contention, at least for me personally. Valhalla Rising and Drive are best-of-the-century level in terms of direction, and I love what he did with Only God Forgives (even if no one else did) and The Neon Demon. You can also see his influence starting to take root in a lot of post-Drive works.
But yeah, PTA is probably #1 for me, then Refn, then Iñárritu.

Well PTA had my number 2 of 2012 and number 2 of 2017 - there's no one who has comparable high points to that, so......

Went with Scorsese & Fincher here...
Not sure if I have a definite #1 overall... probably Scorsese.
Wes Anderson should be here-- two most definitely great movies and one good one. Same for Sofia Coppola.
I'd put Payne in the running for the first two movies he made this decade...
Baumbach's made six movies this decade... 3 which I'd say are great and 2 that are good.

This decade: Lisa Cholodenko > Coppola Really didn't like Somewhere, found it completely dreary. Beguiled is good but also just a tame, less-exciting version of the great original film. Bling Ring an underrated, interesting view of celebrity culture etc. And there's that painful xmas special...

Gonna have to agree with the consensus on this one: PTA, bar none. He's just now hitting his career's peak and is three for three in crafting masterpieces thus far this decade.
Villeneuve, I suppose, would be second, but even so, a pretty distant one. He's made one surefire masterpiece and at least two, if not three or four, great movies this decade.

Will be interesting to see if Coens can negotiate some votes after Buster Scruggs but even more so Yorgos, I think The Favourite is gonna be major and could get him up there. Btw, I usually consider Dogtooth '09 but here I counted it '10 when it had a proper US release.

PTA I guess, even if Inherent Vice was a bit of dud. Also, I get that you're keeping the poll to three projects, but Bennett Miller's two films are better than most of the films from these other directors combined for what that's worth. Bigelow too.

Olive Kitteridge is better than anything Coppola has done this decade (actually, it's better than anything most of the directors listed here have done this decade), but that alone doesn't give her the edge over Coppola. the shit Christmas special aside, everything she's done has been better than The Kids Are All Right.

If I considered Dogtooth to be a 2010 release then Lanthimos is above even PTA. I personally consider it an 09 release, so Anderson has to be the choice.

From this list definitely PTA. I'd say Malick is neck and neck with him overall.

PTA and Villeneuve, easily. Out of the vote options it’s not even close.
Jeff Nichols should be up here as well.

Actually it's Nolan for me by quite a distance. Inception is my #1 of this decade, Dunkirk probably my #3. And Interstellar is my #2 of 2014.
Villeneuve probably would be second with Blade Runner 2049 likely my #4 of this decade and having another fantastic film with Prisoners and another very strong one with Sicario.

Nolan easily. With four movies, Inception alone is enough to qualify.

Ok, so who has been the best/greatest filmmaker of the last decade (2010-2019)?
I put as many worthy filmmakers as I possibly could think of.
Vote in the poll and then leave a comment.
