I have yet to see a conspiracy theory that didn't strike me as needlessly shallow and failing to take into account something major (physics, America's relationship with the Middle East, past terrorist attacks, false flag precedents, etc.). Plus, I just find it really corrosive and distasteful about using such an event as a platform for one to spew their New World Order bullshit.

While there is a lot of that going on, I would say that is like a chunk of a larger whole. But that's fair.

I honestly don't know enough about it. There seem to be all kind of inconsistency's with all theories, including the official one.
I don't see particularly much reason to trust in Bush's government but most conspiracy theories are put up by loonies aswell, so it's up to you to pick your poison. However I have to hesistate that yes, conspiracies actually exist (and Bush's Grandpa WAS ACTUALLY involved in one) but also that on the other hand 9/11 was perhaps the most major event in modern history so it's obvious, we'd have all kinds of bullshit spewed about that.
I think blindly believing the conspiracy theories is as naive as blindly believing the government.

I did feel at the time that their popularity among the youngs would not end well, not exactly that Trump would get elected and the fake news phenomenon but that people would monetize those multi-conspirationist people and make money/gain power out of them like Alex Jones do and many others. The percentage of people that not believe in the moon-landings among the young Americans is really worrisome for an even worst example imo.
Specially that people would start to mix journalism and googling stuff, people were creating material about that event without doing one bit of journalist work (actually going somewhere, taking the phone and calling people that were there and so on) just using a computer screen, looking at pictures and stuff, no actual validation involved.
Also, they often (specially in the early stage) involve racism (of low expectation like no way X-Y can pull it off without the helps of someone else or more direct like Jewish people did this)

I think that in the post-Watergate/JFK/Lewinsky era, anything and everything that happens on that scale is immediately scrutinized and conspiracy theories crop up, mostly to push some sort of hidden agenda or to boost someone's profile. I don't think that 9/11 was an "inside job"; it was a senseless tragedy perpetrated by extremists. You could make the argument that the powers-that-be took advantage of the situation afterward, but the conspiracies that America was behind the attacks are (in my opinion) ludicrous.

There is some conspiracy up there that they could have made, some branch of the US service knew about it, but did let it happen to further an agenda for example (a old Pearl Harbor classic).
The ridiculous part are the way they explain it or having an active participation from the Americans (and from a group that could not even stage a WMD discovery in Irak), involving many hundreds of people in many field, explosive, missile, (even the media), etc...

They're fake. Saying "9/11 was an inside job" as a joke is fucking dumb and annoying too.

Larry Silverstein and Saudi Arabia are the principal authors.

Not really spent any time reading up on any of them. I do think the idea that it was an inside job is a bit much, but I could probably buy the idea that they knew something was up, and let it happen. Or maybe that's just giving them too much credit. 24 season 2 knew what was up!

I'm going to add another thing: conspiracy theories in general always strike me as some attempt to try to find a grand narrative in events because the idea that something so major could just happen is the scarier option. With 9/11, separate federal departments had their own individual intel regarding the possibility of a domestic terror attack by Al-Qaeda but the way the departments were set up stifled communication within the federal government so they couldn't put all the pieces together. Since then, the federal government has reorganized but that's a horribly terrifying idea that we could know some things and still not figure it out enough to prevent it because of a lack of streamlined communication is terrifying, as is the reality that since then they've streamlined things and increased in power to the point where they can spy on their own people. For a lot of people, the idea that it was done by design and not a series of devastating occurrences with nobody in the driver's seat is even worse, hence conspiracy theories.
