Obviously the character of Richard is less "showy" (don't know if it's the right word) than the character of Ruth but he still managed to communicate so much with his eyes and body language. I think it was a role that was quite challenging ( he could have ended being dull as Fck) so I appreciate the impeccable job he did. He definitely makes my Top 5 lineup.

I love his work. His stoic, Gary Cooper-esque presence could be mistaken as underplaying but instead, it came off as a man afraid to let emotions be shown on his sleeve because society forces him not to. It's very similar to what Ledger did in Brokeback Mountain, where you can see the pressure building up slowly and the only thing that betrays it is the set of his jaw and the glint in his eye.

Yes, if it wasn't for Affleck, he'd be my winner.

He at least was better than Denzel, gosling, and Garfield I loved Denzel's performance ! He's my 1st runner-up (loses to Mortensen) and Gosling was pretty good too (makes my Top 10,though).Couldn't care less about Garfield (he was so much better SILENCE)

I don't personally nominate him, but his performance was truly incredible (he and Negga definitely made that film worth it).

Joel is never not great, and he was Oscar worthy in Loving. Fairly certain his day is coming, soon!

I'd disagree that it's less showy! I'd say the very coiled up nature of it requires quite a lot from the performer, and I think he does a pretty great job. Heard a lot of people complaining about him before seeing it, but none of the criticisms rang true for me. Didn't see a hint of a lie in anything he was doing, and he and Negga created wonderful vibes together. He was certainly better than Garfield and Gosling.

He doesn't personally make my top 5, but I do think he was Oscar worthy and would've been happy to have seen him nominated. He's really talented not just as an actor, but a screenwriter and director too. I think he'll be nominated someday. He's definitely an actor to look out for.

I mean...sure. But it's a super competitive year. I might have nominated him in 2015 or 2010 without batting an eye, but he doesn't even make my top 10 for 2016.

I found him to be exceptional. He would've been very worthy of an Oscar nomination.

I haven't seen Garfield and Washington, but he's way ahead of Mortensen and especially Gosling for me, and is my #3 of the year behind two of my favorite performances of the decade.

Yes, he's terrific. I probably would have given him a nom over Mortensen and Garfield.

I remember when the reviews first dropped, I predicted that Ruth Negga would get a nomination & Joel would be snubbed, and people would look at his performance as 'The type of acting that SHOULD get awards recognition, but doesn't'.

Edgerton hasn't had much recognition though, but I thought he was great.

He did a fantastic job, totally lost himself in the role. I actually preferred him over Ruth Negga
