Super late to this, but a run-down of my thoughts:
- Hell yes, "Tell Me" managed to sneak into Song!! I'm kind of upset none of the
Duke of Burgundy songs were nominated, especially with an annoying song from
50 Shades making it, but oh well. I'm just happy the best song of the year got nominated at least.
- Fuck yeah! Disasterpeace!! A top three score from the decade so far, just brilliant work. Thank you everyone.
- Glad
Son of Saul and
Sicario made it in Mixing, even though it's obvious what will win sound for both categories. But hopefully
Saul can surprise because it truly is genius work. About 90% of the film lies in its sound.
-
Sicario definitely deserved to make it in Film Editing so that's awesome.
- Went 4/5 on VFX (I had
Kingsman over
Revenant), so that's solid.
- Hell yeah!!!
Victoria made it in Choreography!! Now all the rest of you need to do now is vote for that and only that in the category because how could you not? It's brilliant choreography, even if you don't like the movie.
Creed making it is pretty awesome too, especially for that one-take fight scene part way through the film.
- As much as the film sucks,
Terminator: Genisys probably deserved a Makeup nod. But that's all still solid since
Mad Max and
Star Wars are there.
- I'm absolutely baffled
Hateful Eight didn't get nominated in Costume, as that's the one category I actually would have wanted it to get nominated (aside from Supp. Actor). So that's a shame. Glad
Brooklyn made it even if I wish
Hateful and
Man from UNCLE made it over some of those.
- Also would have liked having
UNCLE in Production Design as well, but oh well. I realize I'm probably the only person who truly enjoyed that film anyway.
- Would have been nice to have either
It Follows or
Lost River in Cinematography, but that's still a great line-up so long as
Sicario is in it.
- Hell yeah!!
End of the Tour in Adapted is the only one that matters there, so I'm so glad it made it. Even if I wish
Stanford Prison Experiment and
Chi-Raq got in as well.
- It's a shame that
Bone Tomahawk and
It Follows didn't make Original Screenplay, especially when Tarantino's worst script gets nominated over them, but I'm glad
The Lobster made it even though I consider it 2016 and didn't think to vote for it here!
- Will continue to sing the sorrowful praises of
The Stanford Prison Experiment and just how much robbery is on display for it not being nominated for Ensemble Cast (and most likely won't be for Supp. Actor either......... and I was right!) Truly outstanding acting in that film on every single front imaginable. And don't know how
Bone Tomahawk wasn't nominated either - I thought everyone was a fan of that film here? Guess not... Again, still happy
The Lobster deservedly made it even if it's in the wrong year! And I'm glad
Straight Outta Compton made it here as well as it's my #3 in the category.
- OLIVIA COOKE! MY LIFE IS COMPLETE! And Mya Taylor too! Even if it's in the wrong category. Pretty awesome Supp. Actress line-up all around even if 5 of my 7 didn't make the cut lol. And no Kristen Stewart for
Clouds of Sils Maria?? Crazy...
- Goggins was the only one that made it out of my Supp. Actor line-up which is a shame but at least the MVP of that film got nominated - especially considering Jackson was the only worthwhile one in that film anyway. Outside of Goggins, that's a pretty generic line-up... Only really happy about Oscar Isaac outside of that. And again, no
Bone Tomahawk love. That's insane to me. I thought ya'll loved the film to your dying day. Also can't believe Michael Shannon missed for
99 Homes. Did we forget about the film already? Shame because he and Andrew Garfield in particular give some of the finest acting work of 2015.
- Pretty generic Actress line-up too, but I'm just happy Rampling made it (even if I knew she would). Probably the second best performance of 2015.
- Dang, I thought mine and
Viced 's love for
The Voices would give Ryan Reynolds a push in Actor, but oh well. Jason Segel made it and that's all that matters to me. Even if it's baffling how Michael B. Jordan, Andrew Garfield, and Abraham f-cking Attah couldn't make the cut! Attah gives possibly a top three child performance in my opinion (waaaaay better than Tremblay). But oh well. Tremblay will probably win too which is crazy to me.
- DAVID ROBERT MITCHELL FUCK YES THE WORLD IS A FINE PLACE YES INDEED!!! Oh thank Jesus. Possibly the best direction of the decade made the cut, I'm so happy. The rest of that line-up is pretty godly too! Not seen
Carol, but I think everyone there makes my top ten (except Lanthimos, though I have him in my top ten for 2016 instead). Awesome awesome line-up. Makes up for all other tomfoolery in this thread.
- OH MY GOD AND
IT FOLLOWS MADE IT IN PICTURE TOO! I could die I'm so happy right now. Thank you everyone, thank you! No other film in 2015 even comes close for me, so this is amazing news.
Overall, not as bad as 2016's (woo, that one was a doozy), but still a long way to go. Then again, 2015 is the worst year of the decade so far so I can't really complain. A lot of my favorites got in and that's all that matters. I know a lot of them won't win, but hopefully there will be some surprises in the winners round (lol who am I kidding -
Mad Max exists). We shall see! Thanks for doing this
pendragon!
