La La Land, in addition to winning Best Picture, had the most wins with 5. Silence won 3 and Arrival, The Handmaiden, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight each won 2.

Best Achievement in Sound MixingAnd the nominees are... Arrival Don't Breathe Hacksaw Ridge La La Land Rogue One: A Star Wars Story And the winner is...
Arrival
Say what you will about Hacksaw Ridge, but it deserved to win this. Agree. Arrival's sound is sublime, but it only deserved to win editing, not mixing.

Worthy winner for Best Picture, and a very fun presentation. Thanks, pendragon!

I thought the Moonlight ensemble was pretty fantastic sans Harris, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought she was the weakest link.

I thought the Moonlight ensemble was pretty fantastic sans Harris, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought she was the weakest link. It's like her scenes were from a third-rate Lifetime movie that somehow got spliced in. I usually am a big fan of her (Moneypenny for life!), but I loathed what she was doing here. I can see why people criticize Davis for "doing the same thing she usually does", but she's never done it as well as she did in Fences and I think that if they were gonna give it to her, they picked the right role/film to do it.

huh, I cooled quite a bit on Silence since giving it a rewatch. I guess I'm the only one... Chazelle deserved to win director (Jenkins would have been great too), but at least La La Land won picture. And thank god it won for editing and score (I don't love the score but the competition was weak). I can't be mad about its loss in cinematography because Prieto was my #2 choice. And can I say again how much I love that The Witch even made it here, let alone in director and original screenplay. Can't overstate how freaking phenomenal that film is. I don't think I've seen a horror film quite as layered, except for maybe Psycho and Peeping Tom. I get something new out of the experience every time I revisit it. couple other thoughts: - Glad Stone prevailed. I would have been totally ok with a Huppert or Portman spoiler, but none of these ladies gave a performance I didn't like. Hell of a lineup. - The Handmaiden double wins were on point, even if Jackie O's beautiful, iconic dresses were my choice. - Moonlight DEFINITELY deserved to take adapted screenplay. No iffs ands or buts. - Thanks again pendragon for doing all this! Can't wait for 2015

These are some disappointing winners. Thanks for handling all this, though, great presentation.

Best supporting actor: Worst of the nominees hands down. Gosh, I hated this guy. Even worse than Hedges. In such a fantastic ensemble, how did he win? Best cinematography: Eh, it's alright. Makeup: I missed Star Trek Beyond, but Neon Demon is a good choice. Choreography: My vote. Nothing stood out in this category, and it kinda won by default. Score: MICA LEVI HAS BEEN ROBBED Supporting actress: Eh. Expected, but nothing special. Sound mixing: Hell yes. Sound editing: Hell yes. Film editing: Solid enough, but nowhere near best of the nominees. I guess this means Tower isn't winning. Song: OH FUCK YOUVisual effects: More CGI crap, but at least the CGI crap is fitting in the crap movie. None of the movies from the whole year had any decent vfx work, so whatevs. Costume design: Really? I mean... why? Production design: YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS Ensemble: My vote of the nominees. I'm good with this. Adapted screenplay: Eh. Original screenplay: Allow me to say it again. OH FUCK YOULead actor: I like Casey in almost everything. He's one of my faves. But this is just... there. It isn't bad, per se. But it isn't anything near what he has achieved in the past. Lead actress: Um. Why??????????? Seriously, out of this incredibly stacked lineup.... why her? Directing: *Shrug* Never underestimate the Scorsese fanbots, I guess. Out of the nominees, this shoulda been Park's, but even his directing had problems. Picture: Thouroughly Average Millie! Yay! To be fair, the whole year had crappy ass movies, and Tower didn't have a snowball's chance in hell. Oh well.

Rather underwhelming winners overall, and I'm not too keen even on some of the surprises (I love Silence to death, but Scorsese does not deserve Director over Jenkins, Villeneuve, Park, and a few others who weren't even nominated here). Still though, I love the wins for The Handmaiden, Silence, Arrival, and Sing Street prevailing in the Song category.

if y'all would've wen for 20th century women and tower more, then we would be saved from this shitshow, you know.
anyway, the silence love was p great, especially since that was in the expense of la la land. also, scorsese's win was great idgaf, even though i personally would go with eggers.
also, bless the handmaiden.

Arrival deserves this. But thank god it wasn’t this... What's wrong with that clip? The slow-mo and Weaving are just so hammy. But on a larger perspective, I think it encapsulates the film’s habit of taking these intense and emotional situations, and unintentionally making them overwrought and (at times) comical because of those editing decisions.

Some interesting surprises, even if I didn't like them. At least we aren't completely boring and predictable.

But all that's on Gibbo, not the editing! Haven't you seen his movies before, everything you're saying applies to most of them

I'm sad that I missed this! Good presentation, but you need to advertise it better next time Also... Any chance of more in depth results? Anyhoo... Supporting Actor - Meh. Holmes was the best in the movie for me. I don't even know why Fiddy Cent was nominated. Cinematography - Meh. I thought this movie too often looked cheap in a way a movie like that couldn't afford to. Makeup and Hair-Styling - I voted for Star Trek! Good stuff. Not seen that other one. Stunt, Fight or Dance Choreography - Can't argue with that. Think it earned it with the first scene of the movie. Original Score - POOR MICA! Supporting Actress - Fine. Sound Mixing - There were moments in this movie, especially early on, where I couldn't hear what people were saying. Like when the chopper arrives outside her house to pick her up. Worst winner of the night. Sound Editing - Fine! Film Editing - Cool, cool. Original Song - I don't think that was even my favourite song in the film, but glad it pulled the rug out from under La La Land. Visual Effects - Tough to argue with. Costume Design - Fine. Underwhelming lineup generally. Production Design - HELL YEAH! Maybe best winner of the night. Ensemble Cast - I second Stephen's comments regarding Naomie Harris. Adapted Screenplay - Awful choice. Handmaiden and Love and Friendship were amazing, Moonlight not far behind. Original Screenplay - Screenplay was least of my issues with this movie, but still not a great winner in company with The Witch, Hell or High Water, and Paterson. Lead Actor - Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Lead Actress - Better, but next to some of these performances it really pales in comparison. Director - This man is my favourite moviemaker, but this was the worst work he's done in a long time. The problems were broad and numerous, and this is a joke win. Chazelle, Eggers, Jenkins, and Park all ROBBED. Also, how did this film win screenplay and director and lose picture?! Was it the runner up at least? Picture - i.perezhilton.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/crash.gif

Very pleased with the wins for Moonlight, The Handmaiden and Manchester by the Sea. Kind of disgusted with the wins for La La Land, especially Best Actress and Best Picture. Still bewildered with all the love for Arrival and especially Paterson (I'm so relieved the latter didn't win anything). Surprised with all the love for Silence; I have been postponing it for a while, but now I really want to see it.

Goddamn it I missed the frickin' winners, and I wasn't even busy when they were announced. I could have been here live in in full snark. Anyway, I might add some full comments on the wins later, but for now, sufficed to say, Fuck La La Land. Also, that Scorsese win... . I have to laugh at the boner folks have for him. I'm surprised it didn't win Best Picture too. Then again, it would have been much more deserving than what did.
