I'm not as crazy about Moonlight as everyone else, and I agree with stephen on Naomie Harris (even if I strongly disagree on Manchester!!), but I give Moonlight my win here if only because every single person outside Harris is on their A-game. Even Janelle Monae is pretty spectacular and she gets less than five minutes of screen-time and no big scene.

Best Achievement in Writing for an Adapted ScreenplayAnd the nominees are... Arrival Elle Fences The Handmaiden Love & Friendship Moonlight Silence And the winner is... Silence
Now here's where Arrival absolutely deserved to win. Silence is a worthy alternative, but Arrival's adaptation is truly second-to-none.

Well... at least it wasn't Fences. But yeah, there are so many more worthy contenders just in that line-up. Would've given it to Handmaiden personally.

Can’t we ever give 20th Century Women a bone? Just once?

I loved Manchester's script so I ain't mad, but I do think The Lobster still should've been nominated and won here. Also would've been happy with pretty much any of the other nominees save La La Land.

Bless this board. Was afraid it'd be Huppert or Portman, but Stone was the second-best nominee behind Ruthie and makes for a very sublime winner here.

Very happy Affleck won, real-life issues aside. It's one of my favorite Lead Actor performances ever and one of the best representations of grief and depression ever put to celluloid.
I'm also happy Stone beat out Portman even if I don't think either are particularly worthy winners.
And damn, people really love Silence here, huh? Still don't get the hoopla about it, but things could be much, much worse so I can't complain.
