Best thing he ever did - works all the way through (doesn't collapse like his other great serious film Schindler's List does to me), stays coherent and builds in momentum too, has an ace script too by Kushner and Eric Roth.
Usually when he tries this he makes films that are more good for you than good (like The Post) big, stolid, grown-up fare........this time though he stays close to the dark heart of this material. If you told me this was a lost Coppola film I'd believe it, it's that good. Best English language that year......

I have to say, I didn't watch it til the end. But the first 1.5 hours left me a bit disappointed. The events looked too casual, as if the agents were improvising. Besides, I would have told more about what happened at the airport and the tortures on the athletes at the beginning of the movie to give a better motivation for the choice of the agents to become killers. I mean, I know about what happened because, even if I was only a child at that time, I visited the Olympic village few years later and Munich airport disaster was often told of during the Entebbe crisis, when I was a bit older. But I guess most people can't remember what happened, and a bit of information more could have given a better comprehension of the events.

Amazing work.
and (someone correct me if I'm misremembering here) to think this was all done from shooting to finished product in something like 6 months is unbelievable.

Kind of a mess, but gets points for the interesting perspective. The movie's heart is definitely in the right place, but it suffers from the lack of an interesting main character (is this the most nondescript Eric Bana performance ever? Yes.) and a hefty dose of sanctimony. The worst scene by far is that sex scene toward the end where Spielberg cuts between flashbacks of the massacre of the Palistinians at the airport and Eric Bana's O-face. What the fuck was that.

The gritty look of the film and Janusz Kaminski's brilliant cinematography deliver one dynamite package.

It's a special one. Shows the great entertainer's darkest hour and it's no joke. I might as well prefer it to Schindler.

I thought it worked well; Showed how much the happenings that he was indirectly involved in (basically spent years of his life on it's consequences) has effected his most Intimate moments. He's lost forever. Don't think Spielberg has ever gone this far.

The film is so good that it completely overcomes the fact that on multiple occasions people sit down and monologue at one another about their philosophies and outlook.
That is to say it's so good right up until that sex scene, which is not only comically funny in execution, but unbearably on the nose in a way that an already not exactly subtle film had never come close to matching. Even that often maligned last shot is a work of understated grace compared to the sex scene. Someone needs to hack that thing out and do a rerelease.

One of Spielberg's best. A powerful powerful film. Only issue is I have with it is the ending. That was messed-up.

Honestly one of the worst films I've seen. I dislike late Spielberg in general but Munich is surely the worst of his career.

The last good (even great) Spielberg film, in my opinion. Would love to re-watch it soon because even watching it as a youngun I loved the intricacies of the editing and direction. And it really did go into some dark places, though I maybe didn't realize it at the time.

I love it. I think it's easily one of Spielberg's best films and probably his darkest and least sentimental. The portrayal of violence is so messy and uncomfortable, seeing guys stumble around before they finally croak. I'd be thrilled if Spielberg made another movie this dark and cynical.

Liked it when I saw it. Haven't ever really had the urge to ever revisit it since I saw it (which was around the time it was released), which may indicate that's it's not exactly a classic. But Spielberg almost always knows how to keep your attention for a movies runtime.
But again, while I recall it as being tough minded and admirable fillmmaking, something stopped it from being a classic. I'd probably have to rewatch it to decide what it is.

Politically, the film is the equivalent of that snotty asshole who thinks he's above everyone by not partaking in any sides.
It is Spielberg best film to date possibly. And probably the best use of Al Green in film after Widows this year.

Superb. Great script, and muscular filmmaking. Flows beautifully.

Two years after finally seeing it, I still think it’s Bergy’s most uncharacteristic film, but one of his best because of it.

it isn't bad but it isn't really good either. if you remove the spielberg-isms scattered throughout you would probably have a nice movie

A fine film. Very ambitious project that didn't really succeed to deliver but not a bad movie by no means.
Good, not great and certainly not one of Spielberg's best.

A great film that is only prohibited of being a masterpiece by that weird sex scene at the end. It's a very difficult topic Spielberg approached here and he did it better than anybody could have expected.
