Had an unexpected double of multiple Oscar nominees from 1972 which resulted in the first (and last?) time two black actresses were nominated in lead actress together. It's an abomination Ross lost to Liza Minelli in Cabaret...
Lady Sings the Blues (1972)
Best Actress in a Leading Role: Diana Ross Best Writing, Story and Screenplay Based on Factual Material or Material Not Previously Published or Produced Best Art Direction-Set Decoration Best Costume Design Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation
5 nominations, 0 wins.
Rating: 8/10
Sounder (1972)
Best Picture Best Actor in a Leading Role: Paul Winfield Best Actress in a Leading Role: Cicely Tyson Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium
4 nominations, 0 wins.
Rating: 8/10
Then this morning I watched...
In the Bedroom (2001) Best Picture Best Actor in a Leading Role: Tom Wilkinson Best Actress in a Leading Role: Sissy Spacek Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Marisa Tomei Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published
5 nominations, 0 wins.

Fanny (1961)
Nominated for 5 goddamn Oscars including Best frigging Picture.
What the hell? Of all the eligible movies THIS one gets the top five slot? Thank heavens Joshua Logan missed Best Director because that would've been a genuine travesty of a nomination - a lot of scenes felt like they were directed for small children by small children.
And what the hell is up with the Best Original Score nomination? The movie was based on a stage musical but Jack Warner decided to drop the songs for the big screen version and turn it into a straight melodrama. Apart from the decision itself being insanely weird, they apparently just used the stage show's music as the background score for the film. So it received an Original Score nomination without the score being original. What a waste.

I sometimes forget just how great this is. And that Scorsese's in it, lol. I dig Scofield, really, but Turturro was fucking robbed.
