I didn't expect to like the first movie (never read the novel, but not a fan of King's work in general), but it turned out pretty well. It wasn't at all scary, but it was good at being a Spielberg homage. This has a pretty wicked cast and the promise of a conclusion to the open-ended story of the first makes me very happy.

I can sense Chastain would be great in the movie. Imo she's great in everything she's played. Clearly you’ve never seen Dark Phoenix.

That’s bold, I guess, but what I loved about the first film was how compact it was for its length. There didn’t seem to be any filler bogging it down. I guess since I haven’t read the book, there’s something I’m missing, but I don’t see why this needs to be just under three hours.

See, I think that the failing of the first film was precisely due to its compact nature. Or rather, that they tried to fit so much into one film. The first film needed to be about the kids coming together, so that we get to know each character fully (I think only Beverly and, to a lesser extent, Bill got proper character development, and I think that Stan and Mike were outright screwed over in that department, especially with Ben being given a lot of Mike's material from the book). The first film should've climaxed with the first showdown against Pennywise in Neibolt Street.
The second film should've been about the kids breaking apart in the wake of that first fight, and seeing how they cope with the fallout of their initial encounters, and we get to spend more time with Henry Bowers and illustrating his degeneration.
Then you can have the third film being about the adults.

165 minutes seem way too much for a horror film. A little over than 120 mins would seem perfect imo. Anyway, I remain hyped.

Almost every single tweet I've seen takes the time to mention Hader

Almost every tweet says it's good, very good even but not great.
Very good is fine by me. I don't expect Citizen Cane of horror.

The reactions give me hope even though they are mostly saying it isn’t as good as the first. The things they complain about are things I’m excited about (the length and the flashbacks). The more stuff from the book the better for me.
I knew as soon as they announced it would be two movies I knew the second one would be the lesser though. The adult portion of the book was always weaker.

Of course King had a lot back and forths which won't be in the film (as we have already seen the main story of the children).

the first was fine but nothing special, so if this is supposed to be the inferior of the two that's very bad news.

The ideal adaptation of It would be a single non-linear four hour film (which would never happen in this sort of situation because these are clearly designed to make as much money as possible). Splitting it up is, IMO, a bad idea from the start as that just doesn't lend itself well to the way the story unfolds in the book - I get why it makes sense from a financial standpoint, but I'm not surprised at all that this would end up getting mixed reception as it's going to be inevitably clunky. The first one was OK, but the pacing was a mess. I'm sure we'll end up getting something similar here.

Have we mentioned they cgi de-aged the child actors in order to look like themselves two years ago?
Yeah, it's true.
