I've only watched the first two. It'll take me a while to get through it, due to the insane amount of movies on my watchlist- but agreed: great stuff so far.

I watched it last year, just to get ready for what's coming this year. The second seasons was a letdown, mostly. Still, my anticipation is sky high.

The first season and the episodes Lynch directed in Season 2 are pretty much my favorite pieces of fiction, so I'm obviously a fan. This is actually really good timing for a newcomer to be getting into the series because of the impending third season.

Nice. Episode three is all-time great stuff.
The first season is definitely better than the second, which has some really horrible, soap opera-y subplots in its second half. Otherwise, it's one of my favorite shows of all-time. I plan on a re-watch before season three.

Really really good stuff so far. You're in for a fantastic ride, right up until the halfway point of Season 2. Then it falls of a cliff...

Well, we have about one hundred more days to go and I'm starting to get crazy excited for it. What do you think it's going to be like? Do you buy into the rumors that there is going to be alternate dimension stuff? Are you nervous that it won't be worth the wait? What the hell has Cooper been doing for 25 years? Being Lynch, I'm sure it won't be anything like our expectations. The only thing I REALLY hope they do is use some old footage of Frank Silva so we get to see Killer Bob again. I'd even take a brief mirror reflection. A recast would be terrible, and how else are they going to deal with that epic cliffhanger from season 2?

Started to get a little more hyped for it now. I just hope it gets back more to the vibe of the first Season and a half, which while having plenty of humour, oddness and silliness, didn't veer of into the terrible ludicrousness, like most of the second half of Season 2. I don't see any reason why the above mentioned couldn't be used again as a character via old footage. All bets are off when it comes to what you can do with the story of Bob, the existing footage just needs to be used well.

I have a theory of who michael Cera is! Which I hope is true because it wouldbe perfect. I was rewatching the series with a friend, and we were at the point where lucy has a baby and andy is probably maybe the father, and we just began talking about how much sense it would make for michael cera to be the child of andy and lucy, just imagine that family dinner!

I'm so excited!! I think that it'll be better than the two first seasons, because Lynch will direct all the episodes. I hope it is something like Fire Walk With Me, which is one of my favourite films of all time. There are also rumours for a film after the series.

I would love this. Honestly, I'm keeping myself entirely "speculation" free - I want to go into this with as open a mind as possible. I would normally have huge reservations about a show coming back after this long (with an ending I quite liked, not to mention), but if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, it's David Lynch. I'm very excited.

I've hit episode 11 of season 2. I guess I should lower my expectations until the finale then according to most people?

I've hit episode 11 of season 2. I guess I should lower my expectations until the finale then according to most people? Yes, but it picks up towards the end, and the finale is so fantastic that it's more than worth trudging through eight-or-so mediocre episodes (and unlike some people, I do find the lull just that: mediocre. I don't think the show ever got horrible, as some do).

Damn good show.
Anyway, just wanted to open a thread about it for general discussion. Thoughts on the show/favorite characters/favorite episodes - write away!

I'm going to open up the commentary with what seems like a tired old opinion, that being that the show went badly off the rails after the Laura Palmer murder was resolved. I just wasn't as gripped with anything else they were throwing in there in the second half of Season 2. The Windom Earle stuff in particular just didn't work for me, and it all got increasingly silly, and usually I'm good with silly, but even I have a line.
In terms of the first season and the first half of the second, it really is some of the best television I've watched. It is truly fascinating, weird and wonderful, and for the most part incredibly well written, acted and directed.
I think the interplay between Cooper and Truman makes them combined my favourite character, but outside of them Audrey Horne, Killer BOB, Sarah Palmer, Albert Rosenfield and Bobby Briggs would be my other favourites.
Episode wise, the Pilot, the Season 2 finale and Episode 3 "Zen, or the Skill to Catch a Killer" are the best of the lot.

I was really underwhelmed after re-watching the first season, and I vaguely remember thinking Season 2 went off the rails like many say. I'm reluctant to dive back into it.
One thing for sure, it's far from my favourites list.

I watched the first season and while I loved the stuff regarding the investigation... I could not handle the soap opera melodrama that was the townspeople.

I watched the first season and while I loved the stuff regarding the investigation... I could not handle the soap opera melodrama that was the townspeople. This was an issue I had as well. I get that the show isn't titled "Solving Laura Palmer's Murder" and is trying to be panoramic in focus, but I had trouble caring about all the various narrative strands equally.

I watched the first season and while I loved the stuff regarding the investigation... I could not handle the soap opera melodrama that was the townspeople. Interesting. I really loved the soap opera aspects of it as well, not just because the characters were so wonderful, but also because the soap opera was presented in such a wonderfully humorous and self-ironic kind of way that it somehow transcended the usual melodrama. I love that this show is a combo of a police procedural and a soap opera, all wrapped inside this delightfully peculiar and funny package. However, in the second half of S2 the soapy elements began to get a bit ridiculous. I didn't know whether to laugh or to groan when it was revealed that Jocelyn's husband was actually alive this whole time and that Catherine was in cooperation with him. When he stepped out and showed himself, I was kinda getting the feeling that maybe the show takes its liberties with the soap format a bit too far.

One of the best shows ever. The S2 finale is my favorite episode in TV history. I still can't believe they actually aired it. It was like Lynch threw a Molotov cocktail at the very fabric of traditional TV structure. Just mind-blowing. I'm incredibly excited for season 3, although I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be disappointed in it. The president of Showtime called it "the pure heroin version of David Lynch", which leads me to believe it'll be way more like Fire Walk With Me than the show itself. I love Lynch's weirdness, so I'm down with that.
As for the S2 dip, it really didn't bother me as much as it did most people. Yeah, it does lose its way quite substantially, and some of the subplots are terrible (James Hurley's in particular), but the last batch of episodes bring the quality back, and the finale is more than worth trudging through the eight or so lame episodes.
