Amazing performances that didn't get the recognition they truly deserved:
Naomi Watts - Mulholland Dr. This is a no brainer. She made the greatest performance of all time for me, and the fact that she got no recognition for it makes me emo.
Nicole Kidman - To Die For Kidman is an amazing actress, but TDF is in another league. So evil, but yet so intriguing.
Anna Paquin - Margaret As an annoying, unlikable, arrogant 17 year old, she nailed this role to a T. If it was released in 2005, she'd win over Witherspoon, and I'd still give her the win over Streep with it's release in 2011.

Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive Lesley Manville, Another Year Toni Collette, Muriel's Wedding
Although, you could argue that none of the above were really 'snubs', as they never really became contenders for a nomination at all. The below would be more 'snubs' in the sense they were actual contenders for a nomination and also fantastic performances too.
Marion Cotillard, Rust and Bone Tilda Swinton We Need to Talk About Kevin Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky

I will exclude performances that I categorise as leading but who were nominated in supporting.

Well, two that instantly come to mind are Watts in Mulholland Dr. (my favourite movie performance ever) and Kidman in To Die For - great minds think alike, eh?
Third is tougher. Right now I'll say Rebecca Hall in Christine. I'm sure there are snubbed performances that I prefer, but I haven't been able to get Hall's performance out of my head since I saw it quite a while ago, so she's a worthy choice anyway.
