Counting the last 20 years:
Only Peter Jackson appears multiple times as a director for my favorite films of the year:
The Lord of the Rings triology and King Kong

Out of my head:
Sergio Leone (4): A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West Peter Jackson (3): Lord of the Rings I, LOTR II, LOTR III Steven Spielberg (3): Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Francis Ford Coppola (2): The Godfather, The Godfather II Clint Eastwood (2): Unforgiven, Letters from Iwo Jima
Nolan will likely join them this year with Inception and Dunkirk as I don't think anything else will top Dunkirk.
Also I'm only doing line-ups since 1952. If I'd go further back the likes of Howard Hawks (Rio Bravo, The Big Sleep) and Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood) would probably be included.

These Nolan fanboys are physically giving me a headache. Going as far back as 1940: Wow, you are a true cinefile 👏👏👏 All I meant was that having the same director win 9 or 10 years is something that I can't imagine even the greatest filmmakers ever pulling off. Heck, my favorite director only has one #1 from me. I don't mean to demean Nolan (I quite enjoy his films).
