I love Rebecca Hall she's talented as hell and it sucks that she hasn't broken through at all.

Mia Kirshner feels like she came onto the scene fifty years too late (she would've been an absolutely luminous actress in the Golden Era) or ten years too early (where she would've been the muse to a great auteur).

Lili Taylor Mary Stuart Masterson Carla GuginoSarah Bolger Lizzy Caplan Mary Elizabeth Winstead Anna Kendrick Rose Byrne Virginia Madsen Olivia Wilde Carla Gugino is grossly underrated ! Too bad tht so many people only see her as a bombshell because she sure can act (SON IN LAW , THE BUCCANEERS , JUDAS KISS ). Great picks overall(love the Lili Taylor and Sarah Bolger mentions as well).

Winona Ryder should have been a legend by now.

Meryl Streep. Why does nobody ever take notice of her? Agree. Her being nominated once a year instead of twice is disrespectful bullshit. Even if she only has one movie out, nominate her twice.

Agree with a lot of what has been said in this thread. Another one that comes to mind is Rosamund Pike.

Dianne Wiest deserves better than that horrible sitcom she's appearing in these days.

These days, Toni Collette. 10 years ago she had a great career and very good performances, the last few years... not so much, apparently she's great in a horror sundance movie so maybe that can reactivate her career
Amy Ryan too.

Halle Berry : not always consistent but can truly shine with the right material (especially in big gritty dramas). Madeleine Stowe should be working more often as well.

Shohreh Aghdashloo should have had a career similar to Tilda Swinton's, and that's just going off the little I've seen her in (but have liked all of it,b apart from Law and Order: SVU, which was really bad)!
Helena Bonham Carter. She spent way too much time doing crappy roles in crappy Tim Burton movies that that's all she became known for. Not sure if she wanted to have bigger parts in more higher-quality roles/films, though.
Angelina Jolie (if only she had made better film choices. There's way too much crap in her filmography but she's had a few roles that really cement her as a great actress, if an unrealized one to the general public, considering that tabloid scandal and her looks overshadow her talent).
Amy Sedaris. She hilarious and the perfect type of kooky, and gives one of the best performances in Strangers with Candy. She's also great on her current show At Home with Amy Sedaris (but it's on no-name network - hopefully gets at least a few seasons out of it!).
Eva Green. Why did she never make it big? She has all the hallmarks of being a great actress (perhaps not being a "movie star" as she doesn't really need to be, but still be a regarded and sought-after actress).
Jackie Hoffman. Just going off Mamacita in Feud, her reaction to losing the Emmy, and her Twitter (which makes me bust out laughing all the time), I wish she was a more prominent actress, even if it was such supporting/guest roles on TV *assuming they were funny/good ones*
Patricia Clarkson. I've seen her is so few things, but she has this super incredible warmth and natural presence on screen. She's one of those actresses you finally take notice of an then feel like an moron for not having realized then that "she was in that and that?!"
Kathy Bates is a fucking genius and should be as highly regarded in the US as Judi Dench is in the UK. (As well as being given steady-ish, quality work). I haven't seen Disjointed but it looks dumb as fuck and has the panned reception to enforce such a theory.
Speaking of Judi Dench, she needed to step more out of her damn comfort zone 25 years ago, and I say this considering her my 2nd favorite actress. I think Notes on a Scandal was the most recent and biggest stretch for her (at least in terms of the type of person/themes of her character - Barbara was still the cutout Dench role of an older, strict woman but had this underlying desperate old virgin lesbian who longed for even the slightest bit of non-platonic affection). I'd love to see her do something daring like play a drunk or hooker or something. I liked that her role in Victoria and Abdul was more compassionate and light-hearted. But I do love that she's not full of herself and is quite unlike the characters she plays. She's a humorous and charming woman.

Kathy Bates. Imagine if we saw that woman in more juicy lead roles in the last 20 years. What Schiggy just said is spot on: should be the Judi Dench of the US. Where's her Notes on a Scandal?

Halle Berry for sure and while I accept she has just been nominated for an Oscar, Lesley Manville should have a much better career than she currently does. Perhaps the Oscar nomination will change things for her, but perhaps it won't. She is a brilliant actress and should be doing great work in great films on an annual basis.

I liked her on the 4-5 episodes I saw her on Harry's Law, she was fun to watch on Six Feet Under, and her performance on American Horror Story: Coven was even better than the already all-time great Misery. I wish she had a career resurgence like Jessica Lange has had.
