Update from a week or so ago on A RAINY DAY IN NEW YORK :
After Moses Farrow's recent piece, I don't really think Amazon needs to dump this or have any kinda damage control or w/e. They could either have a sure-success limited theatrical release (with that cast) and then later release on their Prime, as usual, or they could just dump it on their platform asap and call it a day - which isn't ideal, I mean you could prob get some of the actors to promote it (except Rebecca Hall and Chalamet I'd imagine).

It might get a limited release on USA, but they shouldn't have to worry about places like Europe and Brazil, where the target audiences would see it nonetheless. About promotion, Idk... As far as I recall, Fanning and Gomezes never said they regret being a part of it, so maybe they could do some?

Amazon's fall slate is Life Itself (Sept), Beautiful Boy (Oct), Suspiria (Nov), Peterloo (Nov), Cold War (Dec).
We know Rainy Day is completed, I'm wondering where they'll drop it.... or if they'll go for a light awards play? Wonder Wheel (Dec 1) was maybe WA's worst domestic box-office yet, and didn't come close to awards (it's mind-blowing Winslet didn't get any love, or Vittorio! but anyway) ....Rainy Day is def more commercial, maybe not as awardsy so is a first Q release next year more likely? I think so, say, a Feb release. They're prob thinking Chalamet will be nodded then, and help boost immediate appeal (and that date would erase the tricky "campaign" situation that Winslet couldn't quite overcome last year).....

Two bits of news: A Rainy Day in NY might get a release this year. And Woody Allen likely won't be filming anything this year - for the first time in decades....! pagesix.com/2018/08/27/woody-allen-taking-a-break-from-film-for-the-first-time-in-decades/It could be that he's having trouble finding financing or actors to commit (but I mean, Huppert for one has said she'd work with him!) , and maybe the Amazon deal has fallen thru... WA meanwhile is actually directing a Puccini opera in Italy this winter.

from a January NYT article (months before Moses Farrow speaking out), WA's sister/producer said "Financing is already in place for the script he’s working on now, she said, outside the Amazon deal." She also mentioned he may be writing "short stories or possibly a book." Hmm...

As far as we know, Page Six two days ago said it's getting released this year, Amazon contacted them with "No, there's no release date" so Page Six says it's shelved indefinitely? Is that speculation or do they have sources? At any rate......
Seems like Amazon doesn't know what to do with the movie. They're stuck btwn not wanting to aggravate the public or wade in any controversy....and not having a legit enough reason not to release it.
Chalamet and Rebecca Hall could retract their statements (and by that I mean...they should) in light of Moses' piece bc they've helped in creating a tone of guilt around Woody Allen in publicly supporting Dylan and Mia's claims. Hmmm. There's still Selena Gomez and Elle Fanning to possibly do press who, unlike cowardly Chalamet, have given normal and smart responses to the inevitable question of working with WA.

Woody'so fans can care less about the drama and you know overseas market is like huh.

Amazon is handling Chalamet's Beautiful Boy Oscar campaign, so I guess they'll release post-awards season, so the golden boy doesn't have to answer awkward questions. This is really disgusting, if only another Farrow child would speak up and stand for Moses as well.

Watch them dump this in April next year to make sure no one brings it up anywhere near Chalamet before he can no longer be hurt by the backlash. Is this one of those cases where foreign distributors are contractually blocked from releasing a project ahead of its US premiere? Because if it isn't, other countries should just go ahead and put it out anyway. There's a considerable audience for Woody's films outside the US, which is also why I think he should just go to Europe to make his next ones.

Other than Diane Keaton and Alec Baldwin, no actor in their right mind is going to want to work with Allen now.

F*ck Hollywood anyway, he could work with Bardem.
To not work with Allen is what........moral cowardice at best? Not to believe in the US justice system which cleared him?
It's f'n gross.

Charlotte Rampling came out in support of him, too. LinkIn that interview, she also calls Spike Lee annoying.

I think Woody proved a decade ago that he doesn't really need Hollywood, and that there are folks across the Atlantic who'll happily keep paying for his work. I've a feeling the clowns over here would join their bosses across the pond in taking the guilty till proven innocent stance, but I reckon them on the mainland are 'we don't give a fuck' enough to keep him in business if in business is where he wants to be. When you've got the Bardem's, Rampling's and Huppert's of this world fighting your corner/wanting in then I think you're okay.

"But it will not be immediate, and Allen is currently working on another tape." Is that translated right? So he'll be doing a movie before this Spain-set one?
Also.....Letty Aronson and WA's team should really capitalize on Huppert, I believe on more than one occasion she said that she wants to work with WA.

Huppert said this when she was campaigning for Elle - she hasn't said it post-#MeToo. Baldwin, Bardem, Keaton, and Rampling are the only actors I know of to express full-throated support for Allen.
