And there was no "vote split." Hammer always had the edge over Stuhlbarg due to screentime and the Globe nod. They just didn't like him as much as other films/performances.

Yes. Hammer could've easily ridden Chalamet's and the film's coattails to a nomination, like so any other 'lesser' performances have.

I haven't seen the movie, but I guess that the Academy loves little girls but hate young boys. At 31 Hammer still consider too young 4 a nomination. He is a rich heir and a trully maverick, who shares his point of view, and is a trully pyromaniac.
Ok 2 young actors at leading. That's a progress, but I think there was an intern. One was black and the other donated his salary.-
