I’m really excited! Daniel Bruhl and Cary Fukunaga is a lovely combination.

2 episodes in, Bruhl is fantastic but the show isn't. Will see what happens.

There are definitely a few cliche elements (can we please stop with that “Silence of the Lambs” editing trick. It’s no longer surprising), but I’m generally enjoying this. Bruhl is very good and I enjoy the dark tone and unsettling moments and there’s a lot of interesting historical backdrops given its 1890s setting that doesn’t feel preachy or distracting.

Finished it. Technically solid and occasionally interesting but overall a pretty flat mystery. I hope it improves in it's second season, if there's one.

I gave up on the second or third episode. Watched 'cause it seemed very interesting, reminded me of a Silence of the Lambs/Penny Dreadful crossover and for the cast, but the first episodes are so boring. Should I give it a second chance?

Haven't watched yet......
But didn't realize Fukunaga was still credited for writing 2 of the episodes. And, a bigger surprise, the great John Sayles wrote 3 eps! Another one: the cowriter of Foxcatcher, E Max Frye wrote 3 eps too.

I absolutely love the atmosphere and the performances from the central trio are more than appealing, but to echo what's already been said, it's just so... vanilla. I think this material would have been better served by a feature length film.

The middling reviews steered me away from this one.

Didn't know a second season is coming. Slick visuals though.

Finished watching the second season. Definitely better than the first but there's still room for improvement. The show is handsomely produced with it's period detailing, costumes and stunning visuals, more than this subject needed actually. But it's not a riveting mystery thriller as one would expect although it got better as it progressed. A bit disappointed that Daniel Bruhl took backseat this season but Dakota Fanning's got a real good arc and she did total justice.
