People should hold their horses. The Master started out even better and it flopped. Primarily because Weinstein dumped it in wide release rather than platforming it like he did for Silver Linings Playbook. The Master is very much a "word of mouth" type of movie, but he shoved it into wide release after Venice because Joaquin and PTA weren't willing to play the Oscar game, and so he shifted his focus toward the O. Russell film, which got platformed despite being a relatively straightforward, palatable film to sell to the masses.
