I'll admit that when I first saw Vaghe stelle dell'Orsa, I wasn't entirely entranced. Claudia Cardinale and Jean Sorel are two of cinema's most astonishing beauties and the film has Tuscan élan for days, but it's not really driven by plot... It's more an evocation, and it lives or dies based on whether it's able to move its viewer emotionally. Initially I admired Visconti's technicality, but not necessarily his spectral passions... ...I wasn't prepared for the undertow. The haunting, hypnotic spell that this film casts lingers for days. Or, in my case, well on a year. Multiple viewings later, the ghostly howls of wind and insistent shadows are as seared into my being as the dark desires of its two leading characters. I'm not sure that I've ever reacted to a film in quite this way.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, and nothing else comes close

Probably Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion.........it's tough but that's as good a choice as any for me.

Stephen's choice. That or Once Upon a Time in the West. The Night Porter and Kapo following behind.

My head says TIE: Investigation on a citizen upon suspicion / Divorce Italian style.
My heart says: Nights of Cabiria.

Ashamed to say I've seen very little to none...

I'm going to be super cliche but Fellini's 8 1/2 followed by De Sica's Bicycle Thieves.

The movie I rewatched the most is Don Camillo.
