I'm glad she at least addressed it if she's going to be active in #metoo. Emma Thompson has said the same thing. She said she just signed it because she was pressured too by some people in the industry and she took it back once she read more about the case. Asia Argento is another. All it was was Hollywood's boy's club (with Weinstein being one of the leaders of this) trying to protect one of their own, so you had people who just signed because it was trendy at the time to support Polanski (and ostracize Mel Gibson for saying bad things while drunk, but that's another story).

Natalie Portman : ‘It Was a Mistake. My Eyes Were Not Open’
Me : Exactly! She was a grown ass woman.

Winslet would sell her own mother into slavery for an Oscar. She was so gung-ho about working with Allen for Wonder Wheel, saw the intense backlash she got for it (plus a failed Oscar campaign), and has done a total U-turn. Just in time for awards season. And I'm someone who thinks Polanski should be doing jail time for his crime, and finds Allen pretty creepy and suspect at best. But the lack of sincerity in Winslet's turn is stunning. She's saying this because she thinks it's what people want to hear. If she could still get away with working with and supporting them with no blowback, she totally would. The epitome of a Hollywood Phony.

Definitely phony considering her sound comments only a few years ago. She or her PR people realized this is easier than trying to be open and sane about these questions that pop up - it wasn't just the trick of answering "right" but I recall roundtables where the actresses around her turned all awkward towards her. Like I said earlier in the thread, unless all these celebs were in the room (they weren't), their continuing tone of outright guilting WA ("disgraceful") reads all wrong. That she gives amazing performances in the two movies is another topic.

Well you know anybody can say what they want ......she didn't go as far as Portman did (unsolicited, calling Allen a criminal basically) which was gross to me ........Winslet's comments are neither insightful, or particularly interesting.
It's just virtue signaling and should be treated as such, hope she wins her award .......or not......I always say separate the artist from the Art (always, in my case, 100%), so I grant her the same luxury.....I separate her work from her Oscar begging.....

She just wants that 2nd Oscar so bad.I mean, I love Winslet as much as the next person, but this was one hell of a embarrassing and pathetic move. Ricky Gervais truly hit the nail on the head when he slammed those Hollywood virtue signaling hypocrites : "You say you're woke but the companies you work for...Apple, Amazon, Disney...If ISIS started a streaming service, you'd call your agent, wouldn't you?"😁

This is pathetic. Regardless of your opinion on this, there are no new facts now vs 3 years ago. The only reason anyone is changing their mind on this is to go along with public opinion (or at least public opinion within Hollywood)

"No comment" really would have sufficed - Hugh Grant has worked with both Allen and Polanski, too, and that's his go-to answer for that question.

This brought Chalamet memories, what he did was a caddish trick, but I sort of understand he had a reason because he was just starting his career. But Winslet is already a seasoned actress, which makes it the more disappointing. All that for a little man of an award that every year becomes less and less important. At one point in the interview she says that "Ammonite helped her to understand the pain of many women" to say something like this at 44 seems to me a statement with more shadows than lights.

I guess that means her Oscar campaign has officially started.

Kate is acting like a moron. She was a grown ass woman when she ELECTED to work for them. As for this whole Woody thing, it is exhausting. I believe Dylan will tell the truth one day when she is free to do so. So what are these people going to say then??? Oops??? Woody is going strong but he is still 84 years old. These actors who speak against him after the fact in order to protect their image and win awards....well it is a disgrace.

Funny thing is, she won't even get nominated anyway.
