Some of my friends and me share the tradition to watch a Best Picture winning/nominated film after our New Years Eve party (usually drunk) we do that for many years now. Films in the past included: American Beauty, Lost in Translation, Sideways, Brokeback Mountain, Little Miss Sunshine, Atonement, Slumdog Millionaire, The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, The Social Network, The Help, Silver Linings Playbook, Les Miserables, Gravity and The Martian.
This year we chose: La La Land

I'm about a third of the way through Melancholia. Normally I hate watching stuff in more than one sitting but at seven and a half hours this is by far the longest thing I've ever seen.

Mistress (1992)
The only good thing about this crap is Robert De Niro. Laurie Metcalf wasn't terrible, which put her well above everyone else in this misguided, predictable comedy. Aside from those two, the actors are delivering some of the most amateur performances I've seen on film. The movie is too safe to be truly awful, but by gum it tries.

A really fantastic film and from this perspetive very sad concerning what became and what didn't became. It's a singular film, describing the modern world, or more precisely modern artistry like a circus.
